COUNTY EXECUTIVE, COUNCIL
TO PROCLAIM APRIL 1-7
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK For Immediate Release: March 21, 1996
During the week of April 1-7, Montgomery County will participate in the
national celebration commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the Community
Development Block Grant Program. This year's theme is "In The American
Tradition: Meeting needs at home, in the family and throughout the
neighborhood."
Since 1974, the Block Grant program has helped to build relationships
between the County, its residents, the business community and many non-profit
agencies by providing much-needed community services and facilities for low
and moderate income residents.
Local activities celebrating the commemoration will include a joint
proclamation from the County Executive and County Council on April 2; a
community development display in the Executive Office Building lobby in
Rockville from April 1 - 7; an open house on April 3 at the County's
Department of Housing and Community Development; distribution of memorabilia
commemorating the week; and site tours of community development projects
funded with Block Grant funds.
For more information, call the Division of Community Development at
217-3620.
