COUNTY, ROCKVILLE OFFICIALS
CELEBRATE CHILDREN'S RESOURCE COLLECTION
ARRIVAL AT ROCKVILLE REGIONAL LIBRARY For Immediate Release: March 21, 1996
Montgomery County and City of Rockville officials this week will welcome a new
arrival at the Rockville Library, with the opening of the Children's Resource
Collection.
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, Council Vice President Marilyn
Praisner and Rockville Mayor Rose Krasnow will join Department of Public
Libraries Director Agnes Griffen and Harriet Berger chair of the Commission on
Child Care in ribbon cutting ceremonies on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. Special activities for children --
including story telling, making bookmarks and helping create a children's
quilt -- will be held throughout the afternoon.
Formerly housed in the Children's Resource Center on West Edmonston
Drive in Rockville, the collection was moved to provide broader access to the
public in a more centralized location.
The resources in the collection are designed for parents, experienced
child care providers, prospective child care providers, early childhood
teachers and students, and trainers of child care providers. Materials
include books, magazines and videos covering topics such as parenting,
discipline, starting and implementing a quality child care business, planning
developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for young children.
Most materials in the collection can be borrowed by anyone with a

Library, materials eligible for check out can be picked up at and returned to
any branch library.
"This collection is an important tool in helping the early childhood
community and parents to provide a caring, stimulating environment for
young children," said Griffen.
The collection resulted from the cooperation of County agencies,
including the Department of Health and Human Services' Youth and Family
Services division, the Child Care Connection, Montgomery County Public Schools
Parent Education Division. Other organizations involved are Head Start, the
Family Day Care Association of Montgomery County, the Organization of Child
Care Directors, Parent Participatory Nursery Schools, the Maryland Community
for the Education of Young Children, and other child care providers and early
childhood teachers.
