COUNTY PUBLISHES
ADULT DAY CARE GUIDE For Immediate Release: February 9, 1996

A new publication is now available to assist caregivers in selecting an
adult day care center that best meets their needs. Published by the
Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of
Consumer Affairs, the 11-page booklet -- "Adult Day Care: Selecting a Quality
Center" -- offers tips to consumers, including questions to ask providers,
what to observe when visiting a center and other helpful information.
"Anyone who has ever struggled with finding care for an elderly family
member, knows the difficulty of researching and deciding on the best plan,"
said Connie Connole, co-chair of the Montgomery County Adult Day Care Working
Group. "For those families who wish to have their relative live at home
instead of in an institution, adult day care has emerged as a popular
alternative."
The booklet was conceived and written by the Montgomery County Adult Day
Care Working Group, a public-private partnership between county agencies and
private adult day care providers.
"We were surprised that nothing like this existed," said Phyllis
Courlander, program manager for the County's Aging and Disability Services.
"By joining together, we were able to use our combined expertise and resources
to produce a practical and comprehensive guide."
Persons who wish to obtain a copy of the free guide, can call the
Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs at 301-217-7373.
