DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS
TO FILL FIRE AND RESCUE
COMMISSION VACANCIES For Immediate Release (May 15, 1996)
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill three
vacancies on the seven-member Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Commission.
The incumbents in these positions are a nominee from the Fire Board, a
representative of the career firefighters and officers, and a representative
of emergency medical services providers, although selection of members of
these groups is not mandated by law.
The seven member Fire and Rescue Commission is responsible for:
establishing a policy and regulatory framework for fire, rescue, and emergency
medical operations; providing efficient, equitable, and effective fire,
rescue, and emergency medical services County-wide; advising the County
Executive and County Council on fire, rescue, and emergency medical service
matters; and reviewing the fire and rescue service budget.
Members serve three-year terms with compensation of $8,000 per year and
are required to file financial disclosure statements. Terms begin August 1.
A member serves until that member's successor is confirmed. Regular monthly
meetings are held the second Thursday of each month in Rockville. Additional
meetings are held as required and members are required to attend at least 85
percent of the scheduled meetings.

Fire and Rescue Commission Vacancies 2-2-2-2
Applications must be received by June 7 and should be addressed to
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101
Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A brief resume including work and home
phone numbers should be enclosed. Members of County boards, committees and
commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the
confirmation process.
