 DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR
 COMMISSION ON THE HUMANITIES            For Immediate Release (March 1, 1996)
 
      County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill three
 vacancies for unexpired terms on the Commission on the Humanities.  All three
 terms expire in December 1997.
      The Commission is charged with promoting active consideration of the
 humanities in the development of public policy; recommending to the County
 Executive and County Council activities that will promote interest in the
 humanities; conducting studies, discussions, and informational activities;
 fostering a sense of continuity between history and current events; assisting
 in the application of human values to a technology-oriented society; serving
 as a focused voice for the humanities in the County; submitting an annual
 request for funds to support the activities of the commission; and preparing
 an annual report on the activities of the commission.
      Members serve three-year terms without compensation.  Meetings are held
 the second Monday evening of each month.
      Applicants should write by March 22 to County Executive Douglas M.
 Duncan, at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville, MD 
 20850.  A letter and brief resume including work and home phone numbers should
 be enclosed.  Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not
 serve on more than one such group at a time.
      Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. 
 Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the
