TEN COUNTY FIRMS MAKE
INC. MAGAZINE'S TOP 500 LIST       For Immediate Release:  February 1, 1996



     Ten Montgomery County companies, out of 22 in Maryland, were named to
Inc. Magazine's annual "500 Fastest Growing Companies" list.
     Counter Technology of Bethesda, a security management and technology
firm, topped the County-based companies in the listing with a ranking of 37th. 
Others making the list included SOTAS of Rockville (ranked 53rd); KRA of
Silver Spring (ranked 97th); Executive Presentations of Rockville (ranked
146th); Value Added Distribution of Gaithersburg (ranked 164th); I-Net of
Bethesda (ranked 283rd); Orion Network Systems of Rockville (ranked 306th);
Digicon of Bethesda (ranked 354th); Abacus Technology of Chevy Chase (ranked
422nd); and Information Systems and Services of Silver Spring (ranked 436th).
     All 10 companies are technology-based firms with products such as
security management, computer graphic services, satellite communication
services, software development, network intelligence and computer systems.
     "Montgomery County is home to more than 70 percent of the technology-
based firms in Maryland," said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan.  "We are
proud to have these 10 companies as examples of the kind of firms we nurture
and attract.  Technology-based firms create the marketplace for other sectors
of the economy which continue to expand our ever-growing business community."
