WOMEN'S LEGISLATIVE BRIEFING
SET FOR FEBRUARY IN SILVER SPRING     For Immediate Release: January 12, 1996


     Critical issues affecting women will be addressed at the annual Women's
Legislative Briefing to be held on February 11 at Armory Place in Silver
Spring.  Keynote speaker will be Anita Perez Ferguson, president of the
National Women's Political Caucus.
     Registration for the free event begins at noon, followed by the opening
session at 12:30 p.m.  Workshops will be offered from 1:45 to 5 p.m.
     Topics include: influencing the legislative process, education and
training, work, civil rights, older women's issues, family law/family court,
and women and poverty.
     Two workshops -- Women's Health Issue and Violence Against Women -- will
be presented in English and Spanish.  Simultaneous translation will be
available, on a limited basis, for the opening ceremony and the workshop
entitled "Influencing the Legislative Process."
     Workshop panelists include Maryland State Senator Ulysses Currie and
Delegates Sharon Grosfeld, Pauline Menes, Joan Pitkin and David Valderrama,
and Montgomery County Board of Education Member Ana Sol Gutierrez.
     Montgomery and Prince George's County Executives Douglas M. Duncan and
Wayne Curry have been invited to present opening remarks.

County Commissions for Women.
