PARKING METERS TO BE INSTALLED
SOON ON NORTH BETHESDA STREETS For Immediate Release: May 15, 1996
New parking meters will be installed on selected streets in North
Bethesda, beginning on June 3. Revenues from the on-street parking meters and
monthly parking permits will help to support the newly established North
Bethesda Transportation Management District. The new district establishes a
geographic area in which the County will be working more intensively with area
employers, developers and residents to encourage use of alternative modes of
transportation to the single-occupancy vehicle.
Modeled after a successful similar County effort in Silver Spring, the
transportation management district will offer a broad array of traffic
mitigation measures, incentive programs and efforts to promote transit,
carpool and vanpool use. North Bethesda, with its close proximity to three
Metrorail stations, is a major transit hub and a key employment center within
Montgomery County.
The cost to use the new parking meters will be 25 cents per hour for 10
and 12 hour meter parking and 50 cents per hour for meters which allow for up
to six hours of parking. For most locations, the hours requiring payment for
the meters will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. The parking meters will
not be enforced on the day of meter installation.

NEW PARKING METERS TO GO UP IN NORTH BETHESDA 2-2-2
Meter revenues will be used in the North Bethesda TMD to provide
transportation alternatives, manage the demand for roads, and reduce vehicular
emissions, energy consumption and noise levels.
Parking meters will be installed on the following streets: Rockledge
Drive, Tuckerman Lane, Marinelli Road, Woodglen Drive, Security Lane,
Executive Boulevard, Nebel Street, Old Georgetown Road and Citadel Avenue.
Because of prior traffic mitigation agreements and the volume of
traffic, meters will not be installed on Rock Spring Drive. "No Parking"
signs will be installed along that street.
Monthly permits can be purchased through the mail or in person. Persons
interested in obtaining a permit application should call the Parking
Operations Permit Sales Office at (301) 565-7693. Long-term meter parking
permits can be purchased beginning in June. The Parking Operations Permit
Sales Office is located at 730 Ellsworth Drive, Ground Level, Parking Garage
#1 in Silver Spring.
