ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL WINS
RIDE-ON'S MURAL CONTEST For Immediate Release: March 8, 1996
Students from St. Elizabeth School in Rockville captured first place
honors in the Ride-On bus system's annual mural contest for sixth graders.
Sponsored by Montgomery County's Department of Public Works and
Transportation, the contest celebrates Earth Day and National Transportation
Week. The competition is open to both public and private schools in
Montgomery County.
St. Elizabeth's winning mural depicts a colorful scene showing commuters
riding a Ride-On bus, others waiting for the Metrorail train and carpooling,
and an airplane carrying a Ride-On banner. The mural features the slogan:
"Don't Pollute . Please Commute. Use Public Transportation."
In recognition of the students' efforts, the art class will be taken on
a field trip in May by a Ride-On bus. The students will also receive Ride-On
20-Trip Tickets, Ride-On t-shirts and a first place certificate.
"We've been delighted by the wonderful and colorful murals submitted by
the students," said Carolyn Biggins, Chief of the Division of Transit
Services. "They show concern for the environment and are creative in
displaying commuting alternatives."
Second and third place went to Christ Episcopal School in Rockville and
Connelly School of the Holy Child in Bethesda. Honorable mentions went to
Eastern Middle School, St. Bartholomews School, St. Mary's School and Benjamin
