SNOW HELP LINE For Immediate Release: January 12, 1996

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today
announced that the County government has established a snow help
line to link volunteers with senior citizens and persons with
disabilities who need help digging out from the blizzard or
picking up critically needed prescriptions. Able-bodied
residents, particularly those with four-wheel drive vehicles, are
encouraged to support this effort by volunteering some of their
time.
The "Neighbors Helping Neighbors Snow Help Line" at 217-4949
will respond to requests for help seven days a week between the
hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Callers will be linked with
volunteers who can shovel snow or pick up needed "phoned-in"
prescriptions.
"This week's blizzard has posed challenges for all of us,
but it's been especially difficult for our seniors and less
mobile population," said Duncan. "In establishing a snow help
line, we hope to find individuals in the County who can help
others, and that's what this is all about -- neighbors helping
neighbors."
