ALTERNATE POLLING SITES AVAILABLE
FOR VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 11, 1996

Registered voters with disabilities who reside in precincts where the
polling place is not accessible because of structural barriers may request
reassignment to an alternate polling place. An application for reassignment
must be made to the elections office no later than 9 p.m. on February 5, 1996.
Voters may check their Voter Notification card for the accessibility
status of their polling place. For more information about accessibility or to
request an application for reassignment to another polling place, call the
Supervisors of Election at 217-6450.
Reassignment is permitted by Maryland law if a barrier-free polling
place is available in a precinct that has a ballot identical to the precinct
in which the voter resides.
If a satisfactory substitute polling place is not available, or if the
voter does not wish to be reassigned, voting by absentee ballot is an
alternative. The deadline for receipt of an application for an absentee
ballot is February 27, 1996. For more information on absentee voting, call
the Absentee Voting Department at 217-6460.
