BUSINESSES INVITED TO ENTER
RECYCLING AWARDS PROGRAM For Immediate Release: April 4, 1996
Montgomery County's Division of Solid Waste Services invites County
businesses, organizations and government facilities to submit entries for its
annual SORRT ("Smart Organizations Reduce and Recycle Tons") Smart Awards
program. The deadline for entries is April 22.
The SORRT Smart Awards recognize outstanding achievement in recycling,
waste prevention, the use of recycled products and recycling education.
Businesses and organizations may submit entries in one of 12 categories,
according to business type and number of employees. A judging committee of
Montgomery County staff and local recycling experts will evaluate the
applications based on overall program effectiveness and the use of innovative
approaches and activities. The awards will be announced in June.
"We're looking for businesses and organizations that are leaders in
waste reduction, recycling and the use of recycled products," said Eileen Kao,
business recycling coordinator for the Division of Solid Waste Services. "The
SORRT Smart awards were developed to recognize organizations that go the extra
mile to reduce waste, make goods last longer, promote recycling and buying
recycled products in the workplace or in the business community, and save our
natural resources."
To request an entry form, interested organizations should call (301)
217-2770. All applications must be postmarked by April 22, 1996.
