SPECIAL NEEDS LIBRARY
TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE
FOR 10TH ANNIVERSARY For Immediate Release: January 12, 1996
The public is invited to attend an Open House celebrating the 10th
anniversary of the County's Special Needs Library on January 25 from 2:30 to
4:30 p.m. The event will feature tours of the library and demonstrations of
adaptive technology equipment. Light refreshments will also be served.
Located at 6400 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda, the Special Needs
Library provides an array of materials for and about persons with
disabilities. The collection includes large print books, materials relating
to disabilities, and Talking Book, administered by the Library of Congress
National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
The library also coordinates the homebound service, the microcomputer
literacy program for persons who need access to adaptive technology and
services for the deaf and hard of hearing community. The Special Needs
Library is one of the 21 branches of the Montgomery County Department of
Public Libraries. The facility was recently renovated to help provide more
efficient use of its materials and equipment.
The anniversary Open House is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of

Montgomery County, Md., Inc. and the Special Needs Library-Library Advisory
Committee.
The library is wheelchair accessible. If specific accommodations (i.e.,
oral or cued speech interpreters, assistive listening devices, etc.) are
required, call the library seven working days in advance.
