BOARD OF ELECTIONS ANNOUNCES
VOTER REGISTRATION CARDS
NOT PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP For Immediate Release: March 21, 1996

Montgomery County Elections Administrator Carol Evans has announced
that, as a result of newly-enacted federal legislation, voter registration
cards and voter's certificates are no longer valid for proof of citizenship.
County voters traveling to Canada, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas,
Bermuda, Jamaica, Barbados and other locations which do not require passports
frequently request a voter's certificate from the Board of Elections.
Although the Board of Elections will continue to issue voter's certificates,
travellers should check with their local travel agency to learn what is
acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship.
