DUNCAN SEEKS COMMISSION
FOR WOMEN APPLICANTS For Immediate Release (April 10, 1996)
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill six
vacancies on the Montgomery County Commission for Women. Three of the
vacancies must be filled by applicants endorsed by organizations interested in
the status of women, and three additional positions must be filled by
individuals applying on their own behalf (independent). One of the vacancies
is for an unexpired term, due to expire in March 1998. Three incumbents are
eligible for reappointment.
The primary responsibility of the l5-member commission is to advise and
counsel the County government on issues of concern to women. While working to
ensure that women attain legal and economic equity, the commission also
administers programs for women including a counseling and career center.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation and meet the fourth
Wednesday of each month. Since members are active on committees and projects,
they should expect to serve at least four hours a week.
Applicants should write by May 3 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan
at the Executive Office Building, l0l Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850.
Enclose a resume and have endorsements sent to the County Executive at the
same time. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve
on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the Council.
Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the
confirmation process.
