Man Brought to Safety in Dramatic Cave Rescue

Rescue crews from three counties respond

Rockville - - - A dramatic technical rescue that began Tuesday afternoon ended with the rescue of a man trapped and pinned between rocks 250 feet inside a cave in the Clear Spring section of western Washington County Tuesday evening.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue was contacted just after 5 p.m. by the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to assist with the rescue of a man reported to be trapped about 250 feet from the entrance of the cave. Advanced technical rescue teams from Montgomery County joined emergency crews from Washington and Frederick Counties to assist with the complicated rescue that ended successfully just after 10:00 p.m. Three other cavers who were with the victim did not require medical treatment.    

The man was taken flown to a local trauma center for treatment. Photos from the rescue can be viewed at http://mcfrs.blogspot.com.
