Three Juveniles Arrested in Wal Mart Fire

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the Wal Mart in the Milestone Shopping Center, located at 20900 Frederick Road in Germantown. First arriving units encountered smoke conditions and products from a discharged dry chemical extinguisher. The store manager reacted quickly when a fire was located in the men’s clothing section of the store. The store was immediately evacuated and fire rescue personnel removed the extinguished debris from the store as well as removed the smoke.

Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators immediately reviewed security information from the Wal Mart and followed the three juveniles out of the store, through the parking lot, and into the Target in the same shopping center. There they were located by security devices in the back of the store and were taken into custody. They were taken to the 5th District Montgomery County Police Station in Germantown where they were charged and subsequently released to their parents. All three are 13 years of age.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Montgomery County Department of Health responded to the scene and assisted the Wal Mart in reopening. The Health Department was called due to the multiple use nature of the store, housing a fast food restaurant as well as a grocery store.

Specific charges are pending. Video from inside the store will be released when it is available.
