Regional Center
The Silver Spring Regional Service Center, formerly the Silver Spring Government Center was formed in 1975. The new Center was added in downtown Silver Spring because the County Council ascertained that coordination of community needs with government services in Silver Spring could best be accomplished through this expansion.
The Silver Spring Center was first located in a high-rise office building at 8630 Colesville Road. The Center was established with the idea of bringing a wide assortment and balanced range of services to the diverse population within Silver Spring. Many agencies were housed in the original Center, including the Housing Opportunities Commission, Office of Landlord Tenant Affairs, Recreation Department of Motor Vehicles hearing Examiner, Print Shop, and the Administrative Office.
The Administrative Office represents the County Executive's Office in Silver Spring. The Administrative staff coordinates efforts to assist Silver Spring neighborhoods and businesses over a wide range of issues.
In 1997 the Silver Spring Urban District operations and the Silver Spring Redevelopment Program merged into the Silver Spring Regional Services Center, providing a single point of contact for the public and allowing greater operating efficiency and program coordination. The goals of the Regional Center are to bring public services closer to the community and residents who use them, and to provide a focal point for community interaction, as well as to facilitate and sustain a healthy downtown.
