Silver Spring Transit Center
Construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center will be starting the first of October! In connection with the construction, ALL BUS OPERATIONS WILL BE RELOCATED SEPTEMBER 28TH TO A NEW “INTERIM OPERATIONS SITE” on WAYNE, DIXON, and BONIFANT streets. These streets are beside the Metro station, a short walk from the current bus operations.
Look for special signs throughout the Interim Operations Site along Wayne, Dixon, and Bonifant that have a map showing the locations of your specific bus stop. You will also see new bus stop signs, shelters, and other amenities to accommodate the new stops. Access to the MARC station has also changed. Again, look for the signs directing you to the new walkway.
Construction of the new Transit Center is expected to last about two years.

Project Description: This project provides for the expansion of the existing Silver Spring Transit Facility into a large, multi-modal transit center that will serve as a vital part of Silver Spring revitalization initiative. The eight acre site will be developed to accommodate a multi-level, pedestrian friendly complex supporting rail traffic (Metro and MARC), bus traffic (local and inter-city) and automobile traffic (taxi service and Kiss and Ride). Major features include doubling the number of bus bays, a 4,500 square feet inter-city bus building, and extensive provisions for safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic movement under a landmark canopy. Hiker/Biker trail enhancements and retail space are also included in the design concept.
