Project Description
This project provides for planning and design of a new
32,844 gross square foot 3rd District Police Station to
serve Silver Spring and vicinity. The district station will
consist of two floors and surface parking. The first floor
will house the public access area, operations, patrol and
patrol support functions, and a small prisoner holding area.
The second floor will house investigative units, staff
support and administration. The district station will be in
operation 24-hours, 7-days per week and will provide support
for the patrol beat teams. It will be the command center for
the satellite facilities within the police district. A
public meeting room will be available to facilitate outreach
with the 3rd District's community.

Project Status
This project is currently in the design stage.
Project Schedule
Mandatory Referral was submitted to M-NCPPC on September 28,
2009. M-NCPPC has issued several rounds of comments. All
comments have been responded and incorporated into the
submitted documents. M-NCPPC has accepted the submission as
complete on December 30, 2009.
Department of General Services and the project design team are currently working on a modified site design and Forest Conservation Plan to create a required buffer between the Police Station and the adjoining residential neighborhoods and also to provide all reforestation on-site as much as it is feasible. The new site design has been submitted for Mandatory Referral process and approval to Maryland - National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). Planning Board hearing is currently scheduled for Dec. 16, 2010. Please check M-NCPPC web site for updated information on time and possible rescheduling.
