From the collected results to date:

  • Over 140 volunteers joined with Calleva & Potomac Community Resources for a day of cleanup at Riley's Lock along the C&O Canal. With over 600 hours of people-power we helped to clean and brighten our park which was flood and storm ravaged!

  • The Division of Solid Waste Services hosted two paper shredding/recycling and clothing/household goods donation events in Germantown and Wheaton. A total of 18,930 pounds of paper was shredded and recycled and almost two trucks were filled with donated materials that will be reused instead of being disposed as refuse.

  • Cleanup of the Mill Creek Stream: About 20 volunteers cleaned in the woods surrounding the stream also who collected about 20 bags of trash, several tires, metal poles and assorted rusty metal car parts.

  • GapBuster’s Leaders-In-Training had a “Cook-Out for the Homeless” in honor of Earth Day (April 24). Students collected trash from surrounding areas and learned about conserving energy!

  • Volunteers participated in a watershed cleanup with the Little Falls Watershed Alliance and collected 35 bags of trash, 12 bags of recyclables, one man hole cover, one railroad tie, one big piece of stockade fencing, one partial shopping cart, one computer, one cash register and more!
