Blood Drive at Mid County Regional Services Center
Location
: Mid-County Regional Services Center

Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm

Description: The Mid-County Regional Services Center will host a blood drive in conjunction with the County's celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a call to residents to offer their service to others.  Participants will be provided with information and assistance. Language interpreters will be made available if requested.  To register contact Gwen Haney at 240-777-8114.

Service Projects & Volunteer Fair

: Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center

Time: Service Project, 1:00pm to 3:00pm; Volunteer Fair, 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Description: Come to participate in a variety of service projects on-site including: making valentine’s day cards for the Orphans Foundation, creating origami cranes for Roots and Shoots, decorating bookmarks and cards for children with cancer and other terminal illnesses, packing snow day baskets for county-wide Meals on Wheels program, and much more.  The project portion of event approved for Student Service Learning.

While you're there, visit with various nonprofit agencies at the Volunteer Fair to explore the great work they do and how you can be a part of it!  Nonprofit agencies will have information about their agencies as well as information about their volunteer opportunities.

Description: This day of service and celebration will include participants helping to make a Kwanzaa quilt, watching and discussing a movie about civil rights and Dr. King, as well as other activities.  More details will be available soon!

Description: AFI Silver Theatre will host two screenings of KING: A FILMED RECORD...MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS, a riveting compilation of documentary footage of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and significant moments in the civil rights movement.  The East County and Silver Spring Regional Services Centers will present volunteer opportunities immediately following each screening.  There will be a chance to speak with area nonprofit groups about the work they do and ways to get involved with volunteer opportunities year round.  *Note: Tickets are first come-first served and there is a maximum of four tickets per person.  Participants can get tickets on the day of the screening beginning at 10:30am.  Please arrive early, seating is limited.
