ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT

CABLE TELEVISION SERVICE - FREE RESIDENTIAL CONNECTION

(1)    Upon the request of the County, the Franchisee shall without charge install one activated outlet at each public and non-profit educational institution, each County, State or municipal and agency building, each facility owned by or leased to the County, each non-profit health care institution with patient beds, and each multi-purpose Community Center, within the Franchise Area, as shall be designated by the County from time to time.  Upon request by the County, the Franchisee at its own cost shall provide the signal power level at the outlet at 15 dBmv.

(2)    The Franchisee shall provide the highest tier that contains Basic Service, and any equipment necessary to receive such service, free of charge to those facilities specified in subsection (1) herein.  At its sole discretion, the Franchisee may also provide higher levels of service to such facilities free of charge.

1.  Organizations who believe they qualify for this benefit should write or fax a letter, on agency letterhead, to the Montgomery County Office of Cable and Communication Services, 100 Maryland Ave. Suite 250, Rockville, Md., 20850 Phone 240-773-CATV (2288), Fax 240-777-3770 and include the following information:

Agency name, type of qualifying organization, address, contact persons, phone numbers

2.  Non-profit organizations must also provide a copy of their currently valid 501C3 IRS form or other proof of current non-profit status.

3.  Educational institutions must provide a copy of their currently valid state issued license.  Health care institutions must provide a copy of their currently valid County issued license.   

4  This request will be reviewed and, if approved, forwarded to one of the cable companies for action.  The Operator will schedule a site visit.  Under normal conditions service is usually made available within 30 days.  If cable service is not already available (eg. within 150 feet of the building to be served), special conditions may apply. 

5.  Per the Franchise, only one connection per building is provided free.
