This project involves the complete removal of the existing structure and the construction of a new recreation center. A larger gymnasium and modern interiors will be a focal point for the facility. Upgrades to the site include improved landscaping and parking. A key component of the site and new facility's design is to conform to Montgomery County standards, including meeting with green building and sustainability goals; energy guidelines; and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project will be designed to comply with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines for LEED Silver certification.

In the Construction Document phase, the design documents approved during the schematic design phase are developed into comprehensive construction drawings. Construction documentation includes all the drawings and specifications needed to obtain required building permits and contractor bids. These drawings become part of the builder’s contract and will be used to construct the building. A typical set of drawings includes architectural drawings as well as drawings that show the mechanical systems, the electrical and plumbing diagrams, site and landscaping drawings, and design drawings for special systems. The County has applied for the required building permits.

Construction is anticipated to start in the winter of 2012 and the recreation center is projected to be completed in February 2014.
