OVERHEARD ON THE ELEVATOR
SUSIE SMITH, Fire/Rescue Services, became a
first-time grandmother when daughter, DAWN DOWNING, Corrections and Rehabilitation,
gave birth to Megan Nicole, born on September 24 and weighing in at 6
lbs, 5.5 oz. Best wishes go out to both mother and grandmother!
ELLEN MARYMAN, Health and Human Services,
recently competed with the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance in
the 2004 Southern Region Oireachtas (major Irish Dancing Championship)
in Charlotte, NC. The dancers won all four ceili titles, and Ellen’s
group placed first in the mixed eights. Ellen took up Irish dancing five
years ago and also performs in local festivals, parades and community
festivals.
RAY WIMBROUGH, Public Works and Transportation,
will be inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Slow Pitch Hall of Fame
in March. Over the past six years, Ray – who is a pitcher –
has competed on softball teams that have won nine National Softball Championships.
In the national tournaments he has been selected on the “All Tournament
Team” seven times. He was also honored as “MVP Offensive Player”
in a national tournament and again as “MVP Defensive Player.”
