Parents & Teen Driving Agreement
Teen Driving Safety

Photo of Doug DuncanTeen driving accidents in Montgomery County have claimed far too many young lives in recent months. Although our educators, police officers and legislators have been working hard to find new ways to protect our teenagers, there are critical roles that parents and guardians can play to help keep teens safe.

Parents & Teen Driving Agreement

As the father of five, I know how hard it is to make young people understand that life is precious and that they are NOT invincible. I also know that it’s difficult for parents, but sometimes we must make tough choices for the good of our children. As a tool for parents to help keep their young drivers safe, we are offering a parent and teen driving agreement that provides some guidance on appropriate limits for unsupervised driving privileges. As new drivers gain experience without mishaps, they gain privileges under the agreement. We are also offering:

The best way to honor the memory of the young people who have lost their lives in teen driving accidents is to re-dedicate ourselves to doing everything we can to prevent such tragedies in the future – through stepped up enforcement, more parental involvement, and education

For additional information on teen driver safety, see our links to online and other resources.
Until the legal driving age of 18, teen driving with a provisional license is a privilege, not a right. I encourage parents to remember that you don’t have to let your teen drive until he or she is ready!
