WINNING WARDROBE SUCCESS!!!

Our first Winning Wardrobe “Shopping Spree” was an overwhelming success! More than 50 women preparing to transition into the workforce showed up to shop. Each was given the opportunity to select two outfits of professional attire while their children were busy playing - occupied by staff and volunteers. Scarves, jewelry, shoes and purses were provided to complete the outfits.

The event included refreshments and a chance to round out the evening with social relaxation. Our guests expressed their appreciation and gratitude over and over again. The generosity of many, through donations, gifts, and volunteers help, made for a tremendous event and many happy women.
SURE ENERGY AND MONEY SAVERS FOR YOUR HOME
The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), in conjunction with the Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center (EMRSC), is conducting a free workshop to help you save energy in your home or apartment. In many cases, simple low-cost measures can reduce energy consumption by 10% or more and comprehensive improvements can lead to 30% and greater savings. Sure Energy Savers can be found through your home’s lighting, heating, cooling, and exterior. Regardless of what happens with the cost of energy, energy-efficiency improvements will save you money!
This free workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm, at the EMRSC, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road. DEP will be provide a free compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) to attendees (supplies limited). This low cost measure can save you up to $60 over the life of the lamp. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Center.
Questions about the workshop should be addressed to Eric R. Coffman, the Montgomery County DEP’s Senior Energy Planner, at 240-777-7754 or eric.coffman@montgomerycountymd.gov. For directions, call the Center at 240-777-8400.

RIDE-ON NEWS
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan announced that the County’s Ride On bus service will begin offering a free transportation option to seniors, ages 65 and older, and persons with disabilities next week. Starting July 3, Ride On will offer free rides to seniors and persons with disabilities Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Seniors may ride free by showing either a Metro Senior Reduced Fare Identification Card or a Medicare Card and valid photo identification (driver’s license, passport, or state issued identification card). People with disabilities and, if applicable, their attendant, may ride free by presenting a Metro Disabled Identification (ID) Card or Metro Disabled “Attendant Eligible” ID card.
Most current Ride On customers who are seniors or persons with disabilities already have the Metro ID cards, as these allow them to qualify for reduced fares on transit throughout the region. Seniors who wish to obtain the Senior Reduced Fare ID Card must fill out the Metro Senior Citizen Reduced Fare Program application. Persons with disabilities who need an ID card must fill out the Metro Reduced Fare Program for People With Disabilities application.
ID card applications are available at County senior centers, libraries, The Commuter Express store in Silver Spring, and regional service centers. Seniors must fill out their application on site and present a valid picture ID that has the birth date at the time of application. Persons with disabilities may mail their application to Metro.
It may take Metro several weeks to process the applications and mail back the ID card for the senior ID. Once the persons with disabilities application is approved, Metro will provide the location to come to take a picture and pick up the Metro Disabled ID card. MetroAccess card holders are unaffected by this new program, as they will continue to ride free on Ride On anytime.
For more information about Ride On, visit the County’s website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rideon .
