How to Register Your Organization What Organizations May Register with Volunteer Center? - Private non-profit with tax exempt status from the IRS. - Government agency or program - For-profit nursing homes and assisted living sites can also register and post volunteer opportunities that directly serve residents such as friendly visiting   Steps to Register   Attend one of our monthly Orientations for Organizations at our office in Rockville. Submit signed Volunteer Center “Registration Agreement” form Create Organization Profile on Volunteer Center website in 1-800-volunteer.org.  Once you’ve attended orientation, turned in Registration Agreement and created online profile: Volunteer Center will review your information, verify your nonprofit status and activate your Organization in our database. You will receive an email when your organization has been activated and you can then log on and enter Volunteer “Opportunities.” Student Service Learning Approval   Organizations interested in offering volunteer opportunities for which Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students receive Student Service Learning (SSL) hours should follow the steps to register above, as well as these additional steps:     Submit completed form “MCPS Organization Responsibility & Assurance Document.” Submit a current Certificate of Insurance that indicates General Liability coverage. In addition to your organization being approved, specific volunteer opportunities for students must also be approved for SSL by MCPS: -          Organizations that are not recruiting new volunteers, for instance faith-based organizations that have student groups engaged in community service projects that address real need outside of their own membership, must describe all secular activities in the space provided in your Organization’s Profile in 1-800-volunteer.org. -          Organizations interested in recruiting student volunteers – must post "Opportunities" on our website. Check the box requesting SSL approval for each Opportunity that you want to be approved for student volunteers.  Once your organization and opportunities have been approved for SSL this will be indicated on the website and you’ll be included on the SSL lists. You will receive an email verifying MCPS approval for each SSL “Opportunity”. This is separate from the automated emails you'll get from our database that indicates your Organization or an Opportunity has been activated and is live on the website.   An organization representative must attend one of the Volunteer Center/MCPS SSL orientations every 3 years.
