What to Expect in a Shelter

If you need to evacuate your home, the best option is to stay with a family member, friend, or neighbor. Should the need arise, the county may open shelters to house residents short-term. When staying in a shelter, please keept the following points in mind:

  • Bring any prescription medication you may need.
  • If possible, bring some small personal items (such as a book or games for children) to help make your stay more comfortable.

Even though the county may not open shelters during the summer, residents who need relief from the heat are encouraged to visit their local libraries, recreation centers, or shopping malls.
