What does a Social Worker do?

Montgomery County's Social Workers provide comprehensive social work services to culturally diverse clients and their families, either individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary team. As a Social Worker, you may work in a residential facility, local health clinic, school, or other office, depending on your area of assignment. While duties will vary depending on the assignment, most work involves:

 

  bullet obtaining pertinent data from clients, members of their families and others to assess socio-economic, emotional, or health problems
 
  bullet

identifying and recommending appropriate resources to minimize problems
 

  bullet developing, with the client, a plan of action for services and follow-up
 
  bullet providing counseling to clients and members of their families to aid them in achiving a more satisfactory social, economic, emotional, or physical adjustment
 
  bullet providing preventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being or that of the community.
 


Working Conditions

As a Montgomery County Social Worker, your working conditions will include:
  • working in an office environment

  • occasionally visiting a client's home

  • working with individuals experiencing various degrees of psychosocial, physical, or financial problems.
