Report Fraud, Waste, or Abuse – Contact the Fraud Hotline (800) 971-6059
Who We Are In 1997, the County Council for Montgomery County passed legislation to create the Inspector General’s Office to serve as a watchdog to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in County government operations.
What We Do Although appointed by the County Council, the IG is solely responsible for choosing topics for review after carefully considering available resources and the mission of the Office.
The mission is stated in three goals set forth in the enabling legislation.
Our Mission:
Prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse in government activities
Propose ways to increase the legal, fiscal, and ethical accountability of County government departments and County-funded agencies
Review efficiency and effectiveness of programs and operation of County government and independent County-funded agencies
Inspector General Thomas Dagley has over 30 years experience as an investigator and auditor at both the federal and state levels of government. He serves on the Executive Guidance Board for the Maryland Performance Excellence Awards program, Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute, University of Maryland.
In carrying out the mission, the IG team produces a number of confidential and public documents. Public documents include the IG work plan, results of audits and investigations, and periodic status reports to the County Council. Many of these documents are available here for Web viewing in HTML format, or for viewing and printing in PDF format.
