I got a ticket. Now what?
A ticket issued through Montgomery County’s automated traffic enforcement program is a civil violation similar to a parking violation. You may pay the fine, which is an admission of guilt, or you may request a hearing. If you were not driving the vehicle at the time of the violation and you wish to transfer the liability to the other person you must submit a sworn statement providing the Citation number. The letter must include a statement saying “I swear and affirm this information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge” and be signed. Mail it to Automated Traffic Enforcement Unit, PO Box 10314, Gaithersburg, MD 20898. Directions are included on the back of each citation.

If you request a hearing, it will be conducted in the District Court of Maryland. At the hearing, you will be presented with photographs of the violation. Motorists have the opportunity to present any information that challenges or mitigates the violation. After reviewing the evidentiary package and the motorist’s information, the District Court Judge will render a decision.
Failure to respond to the citation will result in additional fees and penalties. After 90 days your unpaid citation will be forwarded to collections.
