Assistant Chief Wayne Jerman joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1976 as an 18-year-old Police Cadet. In 1979, Jerman graduated from the police academy and began his sworn career as a patrol officer in the Wheaton-Glenmont District, which is now the 4th District.
Since 1979, Jerman chose to focus his career in the area of uniform patrol, achieving supervisory rank while serving in various areas of the County to include Bethesda, Germantown, and the Wheaton-Glenmont Districts. In 1994 as a sergeant, Jerman assisted in the development and implementation of the Police Community Action Team (PCAT), a highly effective unit that focused on “at risk” neighborhoods while utilizing community policing concepts. The unit worked closely with communities to make neighborhoods safer.
Jerman spent five-years in the Training and Education Division, serving as the Commander of the Field Training Program and Deputy Director of Training for the Department. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and served as Director of the Animal Services Division, and for 18 months, simultaneously served as the Director of the Police Records Division. In May of 2005, he was appointed as Commander of the 2nd District.
Commander Jerman was honored to be selected by Chief Manger to fill the shoes of Assistant Chief Deirdre Walker during her one-year absence. Jerman was confirmed as Assistant Chief in November 2008 by the Montgomery County Council.
Assistant Chief Jerman's education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and he earned his MBA from Frostburg State University. He is graduate of the 236th Session of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) National Academy. He is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. |
