DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The primary daily responsibilities of the 2nd District Traffic Squad will be to monitor and handle traffic incidents occurring on roadways within the district boundaries in a proactive manner.  These duties include: 

Ø      Day-to-day patrol of arterial roadways.

Ø      Responding to dispatched calls for personal injury collisions.  Traffic officers also handle property damage collisions that are encountered on patrol and when shift officers are unavailable.

Ø      Investigation of collisions involving government owned vehicles.

Ø      Selective enforcement on arterial roadways.

Ø      Traffic control when directed by the Commander or Traffic Supervisor.

Ø      Escorts (funerals, presidential).

Ø      Assisting Collision Reconstruction Unit members on the scenes of fatal collisions occurring within the 2nd District.

Ø      Placement and monitoring of the Speed Trailer, assigned to the 2nd District.

Ø      Special details coordinated by SOD and Traffic Supervisor to include:  Races, the County Fair, and the Kemper.
