RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

January 11, 2005

 

ATTEMPT ARMED ROBBERY     

      -On 01-04-05, at 10::20 p.m., a driver for Barwood Cab Co. picked up the suspect (B/M, 25, 5’8” tall, heavy jacket with yellow coloring, knit hat) at Shady Grove Metro.  The suspect wanted to be driven out-of-state.  The victim told the suspect he needed money up front.  The suspect told the victim to drive to Bramble Bush Drive  in Gaithersburg and he would get the money.  As the driver was driving to Bramble Bush Drive the suspect implied he had a gun and demanded the victim’s money.  The suspect fled on-foot when the victim locked the doors and started driving towards the Gaithersburg City Police Station. 

            -On 01-03-05, at 10:15 p.m., a 48-year-old female and a 53-year-old male from Silver Spring were the victims of an attempted armed robbery.  The female was standing next to her car in the 4000 block of Post Gate Terrace in the Aspen Hill area of Silver Spring, when Suspect #1 approached, pointed a gun at her and demanded her purse.  As the second victim exited the vehicle, three additional suspects approached and demanded money.  The second victim stated he didn’t have any money.  The suspects fled towards Georgia Avenue.  No property was obtained.  All four suspects are described as black males, 17 to 20 old, 5’4” to 5’5” tall, 160 to 170 lbs.  Only one suspect was armed with a gun.

 

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 01-03-05 at 6:30 p.m., an 18-year-old male from Germantown was seated in his vehicle in the parking lot at the Popeye’s Restaurant at 417 N. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg when Suspect #1 (B/M, 26, 5’3” tall, 160 lbs., brown eyes, short black hair, mole on his face, blue jeans, green jacket), approached the open window and demanded cash.  Suspect #2 (B/M, 28, 5’8” tall, 150 lbs., medium corn rows, black pants, black jacket) placed a large key against the victims chest.  Cash was obtained and suspects fled the scene. 

            On 01-08-05, at 8:09 p.m., a 21-year-old male from Germantown, was in the 18700 block of Ginger Court in Germantown when two suspects (B/M’s, both wearing a black mask, and one wore a light-colored and the other wore a dark-colored hooded sweat shirt) approached, produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s shoes and jacket.  After obtaining the property, they demanded his car keys.  Suspects searched the car and left the keys.  Both suspects walked towards Cinnamon Drive when they left the scene. 

            -On 010-07-05 at 10:45 p.m., a 14-year-old male and two 13-year-olds males, all from Germantown, were robbed by four suspects (B/M’s, 16 to 18 years old).  One suspect was 5’9” tall, 165 pounds, short black hair, wearing a camouflage jacket and was armed with a handgun.  A second suspect wore a red hooded sweat shirt.  The third suspect wore a black puffy jacket and was armed with a handgun.  The victim’s were standing at the intersection of Century Blvd. and Aircraft Drive in Germantown.  The suspects demanded the victim’s cash.  After obtaining cash, the suspects fled in an unknown direction.  Approximately one hour prior to this incident a 13-year-old juvenile male from Germantown was assault in the same area by the same four suspects.  The suspect pointed their guns at him and the victim ran off.  As the victim ran from the scene he lost his tennis shoes. 

            On 01-06-05, at 4:00 p.m., a 16-year-old juvenile male from Silver Spring was in the11400 block of Columbia Pike when the suspect (1/M, 18, 5’10” tall, 150 to 160 lbs., short black hair, wearing a gray sweat shirt and blue coat) approached the victim from behind, produced a knife and demanded his coat.  After obtaining the coat, the suspect fled the scene.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY           

            -On 01-06-05, at 5:00 p.m., a 15 year-old male juvenile from Germantown man was walking in the area of Cinnamon Drive and Sesame Seed Court when one of two suspects punched him in the face and took his CD player and cash from his hand.  Suspects fled in an unknown direction.  Both suspects are described as black males between 16 and 20 years-of-age

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 01-08-05, at 9:00 p.m., a 16-year-old juvenile male was riding in a vehicle on Clopper Mills Drive and Cloppers Mill Terrace in Germantown when the vehicle was struck by an unknown object.  The driver stopped the vehicle and exited the vehicle and observed two suspects (no further description) running from the area.  The victim gave chase and was subsequently struck with a bat two to three times.  A witness transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.  He was treated and released. 

 

SEX ASSAULT 

            -On 12-23-04, at 2:00 p.m., an 18-year-old female from Laytonsville met with a suspect  she had communicated with via an internet  “chat” room. The suspect (Asian/Male, 40’s, 5’6” tall, thin, brown eyes, blue baseball cap, dark sweater and blue jeans)  drove to the Damascus area where he forced the victim to commit a sexual act.  The suspect drove the victim back to her residence.  The investigation continues.

 

INDECENT EXPOSURE 

            -On 01-07-05, at 9:25 a.m., a 31-year-old female from Silver Spring was in the unit block of E. Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring when the suspect (H/M, 37 to 47, short black hair, blue jeans and a black shirt) drove past the victim in green Ford pickup truck.  He yelled at her, she turned around and observed that he had exposed himself.

 

THIRD DEGREE SEX OFFENSE 

            -On 12-22-04, a 14-year-old female and a 15-year-old female reported that they had both had sexual relations with known suspects between 12-18-04 and 12-21-04.  The suspect’s identities are known and the investigation is continuing.

 

ROBBERY ARREST 

            -On 01-07-05, Clifford Edward Howard, 38, of the 600 block of East Gude Drive in Rockville was arrested and charged with Robbery and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The arrest was the result of an incident that just occurred in the 700 block of Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST 

            -On 01-07-05, Joseph Hallowell, 19, of the unit block of W. Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg was arrested and charged with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and Possession of a Deadly Weapon on School Property.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred at Gaithersburg High School on December 17, 2004. 

            -On 01-06-05, a 12-year-old juvenile male of Silver Spring was arrested and charged with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and Possession of a Deadly Weapon on School Property.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred at Francis Scott Key Middle School in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring on 01-03-05.

 

BURGLARY ARREST 

      -On 01-02-05, a 14-year-old juvenile male of Silver Spring was arrested and charged with Third Degree Burglary, Fourth Degree Burglary, Theft over $500.00, Conspiracy to Commit Third and Fourth Degree Burglary and Trespassing.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred between 12-23-04 and 01-02-05 in the 2800 block of Clovercrest Way in Olney.

2nd DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -OFFICE PRO, 12250 Rockville Pike, Suite 250 in Rockville, between 7:00 p.m. on 01-07-05 and 7:30 p.m. on 01-08-05.  Pried door and attempted to gain entry into the office. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -7600 block of Hamilton Spring Road in Potomac, between 7:17 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. on 01-08-05.  Cut screen, no entry.

 

2nd DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -WHITLELY: PARK CONDOMINIUM, 5450 Whitley Park Terrance in Bethesda, between 10:30 p.m. on 01-05-05 and 8:45 a.m. on 01-06-05.  Pried door handle, took cash.

            -NATIONAL CITY MORTGAGE, Suite 250, 6110 Executive Boulevard in Rockville, between 11:20 p.m. and 11:22 p.m. on 01-07-05.  Broke window, took flat screen television. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -8400 block of Freyman Drive in Chevy Chase, between 5:55 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. on 01-04-05.  Broke window, nothing taken.

            -5200 block of Wissioming Road in Bethesda, between 4:00 p.m. on 01-02-05 and 4:20 p.m. on 01-04-05.  Pried rear door, attempt only.

            -6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue, between 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 P.M. ON 01-04-05.  Pried side door, took jewelry, LCD TV, Playstation 2 games and DVD’s.

            -8800 block of Lanier Drive in the Forest Glen area of Silver Spring, between 1:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on 01-07-05.  Entered open window, took CD player and CD’s.

            -1700 block of East West Highway, between 6:30 a.m. on 01-05-05 and 8:00 a.m. on 01-07-05.  Unknown method of entry, took DVD player and disks, jewelry, assorted prescription medicine, and clothing. 

 

3rd DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

            -INFARED FIBER SYSTEMS, 2301-A Broadbirch Drive in the Fairland are of Silver Spring, between 10:00 p.m. on 01-05-05 and 9:15 a.m. on 01-07-05.  Pried window frame, attempt only.

            -WASHINGTON SPANISH SEVEN DAY ADVENTIST CHRUCH, 12604 New Hampshire Avenue in the Ashton area of Silver Spring, between 10:55 p.m. on 01-05-05 and 7:00 a.m. on 01-06-05.  Broke side window, took, electronic equipment.           

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

            -500 block of Thayer Avenue in Silver Spring, on 01-05-05 at 11:05 a.m.  Pried window, nothing taken.

-500 block of Thayer Avenue in Silver Spring, on 01-05-05 between 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Entered unlocked window, took bicycle, jewelry, cameras, and cash.

-unit block of Carole Court in the Quaint Acres community of Silver Spring, between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on 01-06-05.  Forced rear door, took jewelry, digital and 35 mm cameras and gift cards.

-9300 block of Piney Branch Road in the Nob Hill area of Silver Spring, between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on 01-07-05.  Unlocked window, Laptop, printer, computer case and jewelry taken.

-1900 block of Kimberly Road in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring, between8:05 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. on 01-07-05.  Broke front door, took digital cameras, memory cards and jewelry.

-9200  block of Piney Branch Road in the Nob Hill area, between 8:20 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. on 01-07-05.  Opened rear window, nothing taken.

            -800 block of Loxford Terrace in the Northwood area of Silver Spring, between 11:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on 01-08-05.  Entered through sliding glass door, took jewelry and perfume.

            -1600 block of S. Springwood Drive in Silver Spring, between 9:00 a.m. on 12-22-04 and 10:00 a.m. on 01-02-05.  Entered attic window, nothing taken.
