RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

January 20, 2005

 

ROBBERY 

            -On 01-10-05 at 5:00 p.m., a 14-year-old Gaithersburg male was in the area of Clubhouse Road and Ridgeline Drive when he was approached by two suspects.  The first suspect (B/M, 16, 5’9”, 130 pounds, Black shirt, gray hat) pushed the victim to the ground and the other suspect (B/M, 17, 5’9”, 130 pounds, black shirt, corn rows in hair) hit the victim and took cash from the victim. 

            -On 01-16-05, at 9:35 p.m., a delivery person for Papa Johns Pizza in Gaithersburg was making a delivery to the 400 block of Girard St. in Gaithersburg when he was approached by 3 suspects. Suspect #1 (W/M, 23-27 years-old, 5’9”, 150-160 lbs., black jacket and jeans, black ski mask) displayed a gun and demanded cash from the victim.  Suspects #2 and #3 were similar to Suspect #1 except they were a little shorter and weighed a little more. 

            -On 01-12-05, at 8:45 p.m., the Dollar Tree Store, located at 12029 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton was robbed. A lone suspect (B/M, 20-21, 5’11”, 160 lbs., blue jeans, red/gray North Face jacket, with hood up, black silk knit cap pulled down to eyes, black band around mouth) entered the store and knocked the cash register to the floor. He implied a gun under his jacket. He took cash from the register. The victim went to the rear of the store to call the police. 

            -On 01-14-05, at 9:40 p.m. the B&B Beer and Wine, located at 8043 Snouffer School Rd. in Gaithersburg was robbed. A lone suspect (B/M, 20s, 5’10”, 175 lbs., black coat, black pants, black ski mask) entered the store, displayed a gun and demanded the victim open the safe. The victim said there was no safe. The suspect took cash from the victim then forced the victim to lie down in the cooler area while the suspect left. 

            -On 01-13-05, at 6:45 p.m., a 15-year-old Wheaton female got off the bus at Wheaton High School on Dalewood Dr. and was then approached by a suspect. The suspect (Hispanic/M, 18, 5’7”, 170 lbs., black jacket, with hood, red shirt) displayed a knife and snatched her purse. The suspect then ran southbound on Dalewood Dr. towards Randolph Road.

            -On 01-12-05, at 9:40 p.m., a 50-year-old Silver Spring man was walking in the 8700 block of Bradford Rd. when he was approached by 4 suspects. Suspect #1 (B/M, 18-19, 5’6”, short hair, medium build, black sweatshirt, dark jeans) demanded money. The victim said he had none. Suspect #2 (B/M, 19, 5’8”, 140-160 lbs.) struck the victim with a pipe. Suspect #1 then stabbed the victim and took his money. All 4 suspects ran down Manchester Rd. towards Piney Branch Road. The victim was transported to the local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Suspects #3 and #4 were described only as black males.

            -On 01-13-05, at 10:00 p.m., a 56-year-old Kensington man was walking in the 4000 block of Hampden Lane when a lone suspect came up to him. The suspect (B/M, 30, 5’5”-5’6”, dark hoodie) held a knife in his left hand and demanded money. The victim complied. The suspect then fled on foot behind the apartment building. The victim had a small cut on his neck.

 

ATTEMPT ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 01-10-05 at 8:12 p.m., a 19-year-old male from Centreville, VA, was walking on Randolph Road near Middlevale Road in Wheaton when the suspect came up from behind the victim, and grabbed him.  The suspect displayed a silver object.  The suspect fled the scene without obtaining anything when a vehicle drove by.  The suspect is described as an unknown male, 16 to 17, 5’6” tall, 140 pounds, with very short-crew cut black hair.  He was wearing a black puffy winter coat and black pants.  Nothing was obtained.

 

STRONG ARMED ROBBERY 

            On 01-10-05 at 4:46 p.m., a 46-year-old male from Silver Spring was using the pedestrian tunnel over Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton, when he observed two suspect’s standing on each side of the tunnel.  Upon reaching the level in the parking garage where his car was, the victim observed the two suspects behind him.  Suspect #1 (B/M, 20’s, 6’00” fall, 200 lbs., with black hair, wearing a black jacket, tan pants and carrying a cell phone), grabbed him, and demanded money.  Suspect #2 (B/M, 20’s 5’7” tall, 140 pounds, short black hair, wearing all black clothing and carrying a cell phone) punched the victim.  Money was obtained and the suspects fled back towards the stairwell. 

            -On 01-15-05 at 4:50 p.m., a 28-year-old male from Gaithersburg was exiting a commercial establishment in the 9600 block of Lost Knife Road holding his wallet in his hand.  The suspect hit the victim’s hand, causing the wallet to fall.  The suspect picked up the wallet and fled toward Lost Knife Road with three other males.   All four males were described as black males, wearing dark clothing. 

            -On 01-16-05 at 8:45 p.m., a 18-year-old male from Gaithersburg was in the 17800 block of Washington Grove Lane in Gaithersburg, when He and the Suspect #1 (B/M, 23-27, 5’8” tall, 140-150 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair, wearing a white t-shirt and black hat) exchanged words about a female and He was struck by the suspect.  Three other suspects jumped into the fight.  After the fight was over, the victim saw Suspect #1 with his phone.  All four suspects fled the scene in a white 4-door Chevrolet Lumina.  Suspect #2, 3, and 4 are described as black males, 23 – 27, 5’8” tall, 130 – 140 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.  Suspect #2, wore dark clothing and a black hat.  Suspect #3 was light skinned and Suspect #4 wore a grey hood sweatshirt. 

            -On 01-13-05 at 3:30 a.m., a 20-year-old male from Derwood was at the bus stop at Lost Knife Road and O’denhal Avenue in Gaithersburg.  Suspect #1 (B/M, 5’9” -6’0”, with brown eyes, wearing blue jeans and a green puffy coat) approached and demand money.  As the victim attempted to walk away, Suspect #2 (B/M, 5’9”-6’0”, 140-150 lbs., wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans) took money from the victim’s coat.  Both suspects fled the scene between the shopping centers towards Contour Road.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 01-16-05 at 9:30 p.m., a 52-year-old male from Gaithersburg was assaulted by three known individuals in the unit block of West Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg after an argument.  The victim was treated for his injuries non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST 

            -On 01-11-05 a 15-year-old male juvenile from Silver Spring was arrested and charged with First and Second Degree Assault.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred on 01-04-05 in the 10100 block of Avenel Garden Lane in Silver Spring. 

 

ROBBERY ARREST 

            -On 01-08-05, at 9:40 p.m., Thomas Spraggins age 24, of Washington, D.C. was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery and Carjacking. The arrest was a result of a carjacking at the shopping center on Veirs Mill Rd. in Wheaton. The defendant approached a 67-year-old man in the parking garage and demanded his keys. The defendant displayed a gun. The vehicle taken was a 1995 Toyota Camry, 4 door, white with Md. tags. 

            -On 01-10-05, at 9:25 p.m., a 17-year-old male juvenile from Washington, D.C. was arrested and charged with Strong-Arm Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, and 2nd degree Assault. The arrest was a result of an incident in the 2300 block of Glenmont Circle in Wheaton where an 18-year-old male victim was beaten and robbed.

 

INDECENT EXPOSURE ARREST 

            -On 01-14-05 Carlos Calix, age 22, of Gaithersburg was arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure.  The arrest was the result on incident that had just occurred in Gaithersburg.

 

RAPE 

            -On 01-12-05 a 16-year-old female from Gaithersburg reported that she had been raped between June and August of 2003.  The incident happened at a location in Gaithersburg.  The investigation continues.

 

ATTEMPT RAPE 

                        -On 01-11-05 a 52-year-old female from Silver Spring was in her residence when she

was confronted by a suspect who attempted to rape her.  The victim fought back.  As a result the victim was struck by the suspect with his gun.  Suspect obtained cash from the victim.   The suspect is described as a black male, 28 to 33, 6’2” to 6’3” tall, 200 lbs. with brown eyes, wearing dark all dark clothing, mask and armed with a handgun.

1st DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -DOLLAR WORLD, 15130 Frederick Road in Rockville, on 01-12-05 at 9:38 p.m.  Broke side window, took cash register and cash.           

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -11200 block of WIllowbrook Drive in Potomac, on 01-14-05 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Broke window, took, electronic equipment.

 

2nd DISTRICT 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -6500 block of Seven Locks Road in Bethesda, between 01-12-05 at 11:00 p.m. and 01-13-05 at 8:00 a.m.  Broke door, took live goat which was housed in the basement.

            -3200 Pickwick Lane in Chevy Chase, between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on 01-10-05.  Entered unlocked door, took purses and cash.

            -7300 block of Delfield Street in Chevy Chase, on 01-12-05 between 10:37 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Broke window, took Euros (cash).

            -4800 block of Montgomery Avenue in Bethesda, between 11-28-04 at 9:00 a.m. and 01-06-05 at 8:15 a.m.  Entered open garage and took mountain bicycles.

            -6300 block of Newburn Drive in Bethesda, between 12-24-04 at 5:15 a.m. and 12-29-04 at noon.  Entered door, nothing taken.

 

6TH DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -MUDDY BRANCH BEER AND WINE, 836 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, between 10:30 p.m. on 01-09-04 and 10:05 a.m. on 01-10-04. Broke door, cash taken.

            -TOWNE CREST APARTMENTS, 17500 Towne Crest Drive in Gaithersburg, between 6:00 p.m. on 1-09-05 and 10:00 a.m. on 01-10-05. Pried laundry door, nothing taken.

            -YELLOW BROOK USA, 211 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg, between 6:00 p.m. on 1-05-05 and 7:10 a.m. on 1-06-05. Pried door, took laptop computers.

            -RUSSELL CLEANERS, 845 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg, between 7:30 p.m. on 01-10-05 and 6:50 a.m. on 01-11-05.  Attempted access from roof, nothing taken. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -700 block Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg, between 9:00 a.m. on 1-07-05 and 3:00 p.m. on 1-07-05.   Unknown point of entry, cash taken.

            -9800 block of Mahogany Drive in Gaithersburg, between 5:30 p.m. on 01-08-05 and 10:30 a.m. on 01-09-05.  Unknown point of entry, nothing reported taken.

            -200 block of W. Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg, unknown time on 01-09-05.  Broke through door, nothing reported taken.

            -100 block of Duvall Lane in Gaithersburg, at 6:36 p.m. on 01-05-05.  Attempted to enter window, nothing taken.
