RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

January 21, 2005

ARMED ROBBERY

            -On 01-16-05, at 8:22 p.m., a 48-year-old Washington, D.C. man was walking in the 4500 block of East-West Highway in Bethesda when he noticed a suspect following him. The suspect (B/M, 20s, 5’9”, dark blue parka with hood) showed a metal rod with a point and demanded the victim’s wallet.  The suspect left the scene on foot after obtaining property. 

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY

            -On 01-14-05, at 12:30 p.m., a 16-year-old Silver Spring male was walking in an alleyway in the 10100 block of Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, when he was approached by five suspects. The suspects beat and kicked the victim, knocked him to the ground, and took cash from his pockets. The suspects left the scene on foot, and are described as follows:

            Suspect #1 – Hispanic/M, 19-21, 5’6”, 150-160 lbs., corn rolls, black T-shirt, black Converse shoes.

            Suspect #2 – Hispanic/M, 22-23, 5’9”, 140 lbs., round nose, low eyes, black hoodie, blue T-shirt.

            Suspect #3 – Hispanic/M, 5’3”, 120 lbs., bald, scruffy hair, black bandana, black hoodie, grey shirt.

SEX OFFENSE

            -On 01-18-05, at 4:45 p.m., a 22-year-old Silver Spring woman was walking in the 7600 block of Eastern Ave. in Silver Spring when a suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her between the legs. The suspect (B/M, 18-19, 5’10”, 140 lbs., red hat with ski mask, black jacket) then ran into the District of Columbia from Eastern Avenue. 

            -On 01-13-05, at 11:00 a.m., a 28-year-old Potomac woman was at a bus stop at Rockledge Dr. and Westlake Dr. in Bethesda when a suspect (W/M, 60-70, 5’5”, 160 lbs., short gray hair, thin mustache, white oxford shirt, white zip-up jacket, khaki pants, brown dress shoes, black soft side briefcase) began to harass her. The suspect touched the victim’s chest and she ran away.  When she returned a short time later, the suspect came back and grabbed the victim’s thigh.  She ran away and the suspect got onto a bus and left the scene. 

RAPE

            -On 01-15-05, between 2:40 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., an 18-year-old Texas woman reported that she met a group of five men in Washington, D.C. and accepted a ride with them. They drove to the intersection of Beech Ave. and Forest Rd. in Bethesda where she says was raped. They then told her to get out of the minivan.  The suspects’ vehicle was described as a grey minivan with tinted windows.  The suspects are described as follows:
            Suspect #1 – W/M, 20-21, tall, short brown hair, mustache

            Suspect #2 – B/M, 30, brown eyes.

            Suspect #3 – W/M, 26, skinny, black hair.

            Suspect #4 – Hispanic/M, 30, driver of vehicle.

            Suspect #5 – Hispanic/M, short, heavy. 

BURGLARY ARRESTS

            -Greyling McNeil Talley, 50, of the 8200 block of Colonial Lane in Silver Spring, was arrested and charged on 12-31-04 with Fourth-degree Burglary and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.  The arrest was the result of incident that occurred in the 14100 block of Grand Pre Road in the Aspen Hill community of Silver Spring. 

            -Michael John Whalen, 27, of the 1400 block of Keasib Street in Silver Spring, was arrested and charged on 01-14-05 with First-degree and Second-degree Burglary and Destruction of Property.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred 11200 block of Rose Lane in Wheaton. 

            -John Daniel Collins, 43, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged on 01-15-05 with First-degree and Fourth-degree Burglary.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred that morning in the 200 block of Park Avenue in Gaithersburg.

            -7500 block of Blair Road in Silver Spring, between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on 01-12-05.  Entered unlocked sliding door, took electronic equipment and jewelry.

            -1100 block of Cresthaven Drive in the Hillandale Heights community of Silver Spring, on 01-13-05 at 5:10 p.m.  Broke rear window, nothing taken.

            -16600 block Alexander Manor Drive in the Norwood area of Silver Spring, between noon and 2:00 p.m. on 01-07-05.  Entered open garage, took snow blower and air compressor.

            -12900 Climbing Ivy Drive in Germantown, between 01-10-05 and 01-15-05 at unknown times.  Pried basement window, took wall decorations, damaged wall and floor.

            -12100 block of Skip Jack Drive in Germantown, between 10:15 a.m. and noon on 01-10-05.  Possibly used key, took furniture, stereo, lamps, mattress, and vehicle.  Vehicle recovered.

            -19500 block of Frederick Road in Germantown, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. on 01-14-05.  Pried door to trailer, no entry.
