RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

February 18, 2005

 

COMMERCIAL ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 02-04-05, at 2:10 p.m., the Changing Seasons retail department store, located at 3494 Olney Laytonsville Rd. in Olney was robbed. A lone suspect entered the store, displayed a gun, and demanded money.  The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle described as a 1991 silver, 4-door, VW Jetta with DC tags. He was last seen heading westbound on Olney-Laytonsville Road.  The suspect is described as a black male, 18, 5’5”, 190 lbs., goatee, wearing a gray sweatshirt and brown knit hat. 

            On 02-16-05 at 10:09 a.m., the Suntrust Bank at 12500 Prosperity Drive in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring was robbed.  A lone suspect (B/M, 25-35, 5’9”-6’ tall, 160-180 lbs., brown eyes, short, black hair, wearing a hat and black leather jacket) entered the bank and posed as a customer.  The suspect approached a teller, presented a note, and displayed a handgun.  The teller complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. ***See previously issued press release***

 

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 02-05-05, at 10:00 p.m., a 40-year-old Silver Spring man had just removed cash from the Suntrust Bank ATM at Veirs Mill Rd. and University Blvd. West, when he was approached by three suspects. The suspects demanded money from the victim.  One of the suspects knocked the victim to the ground, took his wallet, and displayed a handgun. The suspects then ran away towards the Wheaton Metro Station.  All suspects were described as black males, wearing ski masks and dressed in jackets and blue jeans. 

            -On 02-12-05, at 11:35 p.m., a 31-year-old Silver Spring man and his family were getting out of their car in the 1900 block of Winexburg Ct. in Silver Spring when they were approached by two suspects. One suspect stood in front of the vehicle and displayed a handgun, then took a wallet from the male victim. The other suspect took a purse from the female victim. The suspects then fled in a 1999 Ford Taurus, blue, 4-door, with unknown tags.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 19 to 25, 6’1”, 170 to 190 lbs., mustache and beard, black puffy jacket with hood, blue baggy jeans, and white tennis shoes.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 19 to 25, 5’7” to 5’9”, 150 to 170 lbs., mustache, black jacket, blue jeans.

            -On 02-16-05 at 8:15 p.m., two suspects approached the 39-year-old male victim from Gaithersburg, as he rode his bike on in the 100 block of Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg.  The suspects knocked the victim off his bike, displayed handguns, and demanded cash.  The suspects obtained cash and fled the scene on foot.  The suspects are described as Hispanic males in their 20’s, 5’7” to 5’11” tall, 150 to 180 lbs, wearing all dark clothing and hoods on their heads.

 

ARMED ROBBERY ARREST 

            -On 02-13-05, William A. Ramirez, 24, of the 700 block of Clopper Rd. in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.  Karol A. Izaguire, 33, of the 9200 block of Stewartown Rd in Gaithersburg, was also arrested and charged with two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.  The arrests were the result of an incident that occurred in the unit block of W. Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg on the same day. 

 

ATTEMPTED STRONG ARM ROBBERY 

            -On 02-15-05 at 1:50 p.m., a 41-year-old woman from Silver Spring got out of her car at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Burlington Ave in Silver Spring, when a lone suspect approached.  The suspect demanded money from the victim, and then left on foot when the victim didn’t have any money to give him.  The suspect is described as a black male, 20’s, 5’8” tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black sweat suit with white strips down the sleeves of the jacket, and a black skull cap.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT/BURGLARY 

            -On 02-12-05, at 2:00 p.m., a contractor was working at a home in the 600 block of Brandon Green Dr.  in Silver Spring.  A suspect, wearing a black mask, approached the victim, pointed a shotgun at him and ordered him into the house.  A second suspect entered the home and took property.  Both suspects then fled on foot towards the parking lot and left in a car. No descriptions of the suspects were available.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 02-13-05, at 3:30 a.m., a 22-year-old Takoma Park man, a 24-year-old Silver Spring man, and a 24-year-old Baltimore man were attacked by a group of six to eight male suspects, possibly Hispanic and/or black, in the 8700 block of Bradford Rd. in the Brookside Forest area of Silver Spring.  The suspects were using knives and bottles to hit the victims, as well as kick them.  One victim was treated at a local hospital.  No further suspect description is available. 

            -On 02-16-05 at 12:47 a.m., a 27-year-old Silver Spring man was stabbed during an argument at a party in the 8800 block of Lanier Drive in the Forest Glen Park area of Silver Spring.  The victim was treated at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.  The suspect is known and the investigation is continuing.           

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST 

            -On 02-10-05, at 11:00 a.m., Michael Lancaster, 40, of the 1900 block of East West Highway in Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with First-degree Assault, Possession of CDS Paraphernalia, and Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was a result of an incident in the 8700 block of Flower Ave. in Silver Spring earlier in the same day. 

            -On 02-15-05 at 3:25 p.m., James Comer Rodgers, Sr., 53, of the 1600 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring was arrested and charged with First-degree assault.  The arrest is the result of an incident the same day in a parking lot in the 11500 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring.

 

SEX ASSAULT 

            -On 01-17-05 at 3:00 p.m., a 42-year-old Montgomery Village woman was forcibly kissed by a co-worker at her place of employment in Gaithersburg.  The suspect is known and the investigation is continuing.

 

PEEPING TOM 

            -On 02-12-05, at 2:00 a.m., a 19-year-old Olney woman and a friend were in the kitchen of the friend’s home in the 5100 block of Wissioming Road in Bethesda, when they noticed the suspect smiling at them through the window.  The suspect ran away when the women saw him.  The suspect was described as a white male, 25, with glasses and a narrow face. 

            -On 02-09-05, at 2:50 p.m., a 29-year-old female from Silver Spring was in the ladies room of the Giant Food at 10400 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, and saw a male suspect look over the top of a neighboring stall at her. The suspect’s identity is known and the investigation is continuing.

2nd DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -BETHESDA FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 5033 Wilson Ln. in Bethesda, between 5:00 p.m. on 02-12-05 and 7:29 a.m. on 02-14-05.  Forced entry, nothing taken. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -6500 block of Winnepeg Rd. in Bethesda between 2:00 p.m. on 01-20-05 and 3:00 p.m. on 01-31-05.  Attempt only. 

 

3RD DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

            -FLOWER DELI, 8707 Flower Ave. in Silver Spring, between 3:00 a.m. and 3:06 a.m. on 02-15-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

            -DOLLAR BILL STORE, 11464 Cherry Hill Rd. in Silver Spring, between 6:15 p.m. on 02-13-05 and 10:00 a.m. on 02-14-05.  Forced entry, property taken. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

            -200 block of Dale Dr. in Silver Spring, between 4:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on 02-11-05. Forced entry, property taken. 

            -9700 block of Dilston in the Oakview neighborhood of Silver Spring, between 10:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on 02-10-05.  Forced entry, property taken.
