RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

 

March 13, 2006 

 

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 03-02-06 at 2:10 p.m. the Subway Restaurant, 8040 13th Street in Silver Spring was robbed by a lone B/M suspect. The suspect ordered a sandwich then produced a handgun and announced the robbery. The suspect fled on-foot in an unknown direction.

            Suspect: B/M, 35-45 years-old, 5’10”-6’00”, 165-175 lbs., with a beard, wearing a white hat, black jacket, and black and white sweater, armed with a handgun.

            -On 03-03-06 at 9:20 p.m. a suspect approached the counter of Aunt Annie’s Pretzels, in Lakeforest Mall 701 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg. The suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded money from the employee. The employee refused and the suspect fled. The suspect was later located, positively identified nearby and was arrested.

 

STRONG-ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 02-21-06 at 6:30 p.m., a 16-year-old Rockville juvenile was walking on the 12000 block of Rockville Pike in Rockville when he was approached from behind by two suspects. The suspects hit the victim several times and took his cell phone. The suspect fled on-foot in an unknown direction.
            Suspect #1: Male/Unknown race, wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.
            Suspect #2 Male/Unknown race, wearing a red jacket, blue jeans, and sneakers. 

            -On 02-20-06 at 11:30 a.m., a 37-year-old Germantown woman was walking in the area of Owl Run Way and Mateny Road in Germantown when she was approached by three B/M suspects. The suspects grabbed her purse and after a short struggle they were able to pull it from her shoulder and fee on foot.
            Suspect #1: B/M, 15-18 years old, wearing black pants, black jacket, and a black knit stocking cap.
            Suspects #2 & 3: B/M, 15-19 years-old, wearing a black jacket, and black pants. 

            -On 03-01-06 at 8:41 p.m., a 54-year-old Silver Spring woman was walking in the area of Howard Avenue and Connecticut Avenue in Kensington when she was approached from behind by a suspect. The suspect grabbed her purse and fled across Connecticut Avenue continuing in an unknown direction.
            Suspect #1: Male/Unknown race, wearing a gray hodded sweatshirt, and baggy black jeans.

            -On 02-18-06 at 8:15 p.m., a 20-year-old Silver Spring man was using the ATM machine at the Chevy Chase Bank located in the 12000 block of Rockville Pike in Rockville when a vehicle pulled up driven by a W/F. Two male rear-seat occupants of the vehicle got out and approached the victim. The suspects struck the victim and removed cash from his pocket and ran back to the vehicle which was last seen heading west on Montrose Road.
            Suspect #1: B/M, 30-32 years-old, 5’11”, 160 lbs., medium skin tone, wearing blue pants and a dark jacket.
            Suspect #2: B/M, 30-32 years-old, 5’11”, 160 lbs., medium skin tone, wearing blue pants, a dark jacket, and a black ski cap.
            Suspect #3: W/F, 30-32 years-old, 5’5”, NFD
Suspect #4: W/F, 30-32 years-old, 5’7”, 120 lbs.

            -On 02-09-06 at 4:30 p.m. a 16-year-old Germantown male and a friend were in the 13100 block of Dairy Maid Drive in Germantown when they were approached by three B/M’s. The suspects hit one of the victims and demanded money from them. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.
            Suspect #1: B/M, 5’5”, 150-200 lbs., short hair, wearing a black coat, blue t-shirt, and sneakers.
            Suspect #2: B/M, 5’7”-5’8”, 130-140 lbs., short hair, wearing a blue striped jacket, and baggy blue jeans.
            Suspect #3: B/M, 5’7”-5’8”, 135 lbs., wearing a gray hooded coat, black t-shirt and blue jeans.

 

STRONG-ARMED ROBBERY ATTEMPT

-On 03-01-06 at 5:30 p.m., a 20-year-old Silver Spring female was walking on the footpath in the 11700 block of Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville when she was approached by three B/F suspects. Suspect #1 struck the victim and demanded the victim’s purse. Suspects 2 & 3 grabbed the victim and attempted to take her purse. The victim was able to free herself and fled the area. No property was obtained. 

 

STRONG-ARMED ROBBERY ARREST

-On 03-01-06 at 11:00 a.m.  a 35-year-old Silver Spring Urban District employee was working in the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The employee was assaulted and had an identification card taken by a W/M suspect she had previously spoken to in a parking lot. The suspect was stopped and arrested by DC Police as he fled the area.
Arrested: Thomas Thorpe, W/M, 42-years-old of the 8200 block of Colonial Lane in Silver Spring, charged with Robbery, Theft under $500, and 2nd degree Assault.

 

ASSAULT

            -On 02-24-06 at 10:58 p.m. the manager of Harry’s Caf้, 13816 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville was assaulted by a patron of the restaurant. The patron had been asked to leave the restaurant and a fight ensued. The suspect struck the victim in the head. The suspect was last seen towards Avonshire Road.
            Suspect: B/M, 25-30 years-old, 6’0”-6’2” 200-220 lbs. 

 

ARRESTS 

            -On 02-28-06 at 3:12 p.m. a 20-year-old Germantown man exited a Ride-On bus in the area of Frederick Road and Gunners Branch Road in Germantown when he was approached by two subjects that had also exited the bus. The subjects struck him with a stick and demanded money. A passing citizen came to the victim’s aid and the 15-year-old juvenile suspects were located nearby and arrested, charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd degree Assault, and released to their parents. 

            -On 02-11-06 at 6:30 p.m. a 32-year-old Silver Spring man was waiting at a bus stop in the area of Flower Avenue and Hudson Street in Silver Spring when he was approached by four suspects (1 female, 3 males). The three male suspects knocked the victim down and began hitting him and demanded his money. The suspect fled on-foot. Two of the suspects were located nearby and arrested. One 15-year-old male suspect was released to his parents. The 17-year-old female suspect was remanded to Noyes. 

            -On 02-21-06 at 5:30 a.m. a 16-year-old female juvenile was arrested as a result of a domestic incident involving a family member on North Summitt Avenue in Gaithersburg. 

            -On 02-25-06 at 4:25 p.m. Juan Andino Thorpe, B/M, 37-years-old was arrested and charged with 4th degree Burglary, Disorderly Conduct, 1st degree Assault, 2nd degree Assault, Carrying a Concealed Dangerous Weapon, and Carrying a Concealed Dangerous Weapon with the Intent & Purpose to Cause Injury. The arrest was a result of an assault that occurred in the 900 block of Thayer Avenue in Silver Spring that had just occurred. 

            -On 02-10-06 at 4:30 p.m. a 15-year-old male juvenile from Derwood was arrested and charged with 1st degree Assault and possession of drug paraphernalia as a result of an incident on Needwood Court in Derwood where a 16-year-old female juvenile was threatened with a knife. 

            -On 02-27-06 at 9:25 p.m. Roger Allen Taylor, W/M, 50-years-old from Gaithersburg was arrested and charged with 1st degree Assault and 2nd degree Assault as a result of a domestic incident on Mandolin Court in Gaithersburg that had just occurred. 

            -On 03-01-06 at 3:30 p.m., Vincente Reyes, H/M, 37-years-old, from Silver Spring was arrested and charged with Attempted 2nd degree Murder, 1st degree Assault, 1st degree Burglary, and Malicious Destruction of Property. The arrest was the result of a domestic incident that had just occurred in the 11300 block of Schuykill Road in Rockville. 

            -On 02-23-06 at 4:08 p.m., Hector Salmeron, H/M, 23-years-old, from Rockville was arrested and charged with 1st degree Assault and 2nd degree Assault. The arrest was the result of a domestic incident that had just occurred in the 11900 block of Ashley Drive in Rockville. 

            -On 02-20-06 at 11:30 a.m.,  two Damascus juveniles, 11-year-old W/M, and 14-year-old W/M, were arrested, charged with 1st degree Assault, and released into their parents custody. The arrests were a result of an incident in 25900 block of Largo Court in Damascus that had just occurred.
