RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

 

March 20, 2006

 

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 03-08-06, at 5:30 p.m., a 15 year-old Silver Spring youth was walking westbound on Longmeade Crossing Lane near Normandy Square Dr. in Silver  Spring when he observed several suspects near the playground equipment. One suspect wearing red coat implied he had a handgun and took the victim’s jacket and shoes. They also took the victim’s wallet. The suspects then fled southbound on Homecrest Road.
            -Suspect #1 -  B/M, 15-16, 6’0”, 145 lbs., red fleece coat black jeans/
            -Suspects #2 -#6 – B/M’s, wearing black Northface coats.

            -On 02-28-06, at 8:50 p.m., a driver for Barwood cabs was approached by 2 suspects at the Hyatt on Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda and asked to be taken to a location in Wheaton. When they got to the area of Bucknell Ave. and Plyer’s Mill Road in Wheaton, Suspect #1 displayed a gun and told the victim to give him all the money. The victim complied. Suspect #1 then took the victim’s cell phone and told the driver to leave quickly.
            -Suspect #1 – Hispanic/M, 25-30 years-old, 5’6”-5’8”, 145-150 lbs., black hooded jacket, blue jeans, black hat.
            -Suspect #2- Hispanic/M, 25-30 year-old, 5’04”-5’06”, 140-145 lbs., wearing a black hooded jacket, and blue jeans.

            -On 03-08-06, at 2:40 p.m., a 14-year-old Wheaton youth was walking in the area of Georgian Woods Place and Georgia Avenue in Wheaton when four suspects approached him. Suspect #2 displayed a folding knife. They demanded the victim’s cell phone and he complied. All four suspects left on foot, running northbound on Georgia Ave. towards Randolph Road.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 17-20, 6’0”-6’1”, 160-170 lbs., very short hair, mustache, NBA tem hat, black Northface jacket, yellow sneakers.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 17-20, 5’9”-5’10”, 200-220 lbs., Afro hair, black shirt, blue jeans, black face mask.
            -Suspect #3 – B/M, 17-20 years-old, 5’08”-5’10” 150-160 lbs., wearing black shirt.
            -Suspect #4 – B/M, 17-20 years-old, 5’07”-5’08”, 160-170 lbs. 

            -On 03-16-06, at 1:15 p.m., a 45-year-old Gaithersburg man was in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle in Gaithersburg when he was approached by 2 black male suspects. Suspect #1 displayed two knives and said something to the victim. The victim tried to run away but the suspect caught him and the victim fell. The suspect took some papers from the victim’s pocket.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 25-30, 5’10”, 180 lbs., bald, thin, black jacket.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY 

            -On 03-16-06, at 2:35 p.m., a 15-year-old Silver Spring youth was in the 11500 block of Lockwood Dr. in White Oak when a lone suspect ran up to him. The victim tried to run away. The suspect caught him and took his back pack and punched him in the eye. The suspect then ran through the woods back to Lockwood Drive.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 14-20, 5’9”, 150 lbs., bald, thin, red long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, red hat, black mask.

            -On 03-10-06, at 2:00 p.m., a 56 year-old Wheaton woman was sitting at a bus stop at Longmead Crossing Dr. in Silver Spring when 4 black males approached her. One suspect grabbed her purse, tore the strap, and threw the victim to the ground. The suspects left on foot running towards the area of Longmead Crossing Dr. and Homecrest Drive.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 17-19 years-old, 5’11”-6’01”, 140-150 lbs. wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, and blue jeans.
            -Suspects #2, 3 & 4 – B/M, 13-15 years-old, 5’04”-5’06”.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 03-16-06, at 7:30 p.m., a driver for Chicken Basket at North Summit Ave. in Gaithersburg was attempting to make a delivery to the 400 block of N. Summit Ave. in Gaithersburg when six individuals wearing masks attempted to rob him. One of the suspects demanded food and a fight ensued and the driver sustained a cut lip. A woman by-stander intervened and the suspects fled in different directions. No descriptions were provided. 

            -On 03-03-06, at 6:45 p.m., an 18-year-old Rockville man was flagged down at the bus turn-around in the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Rd. in Wheaton. The suspect asked him for a cigarette and the victim said he had none. The suspect then reached into the victim’s pocket and pulled out some cash, a school ID card, and a bus pass. The suspect dropped everything but the dollar and fled towards the Metro.
            -Suspect #1, B/M, 6’00, 210-220 lbs., wearing a black coat and dark jeans. 

            -On 03-07-06, at 5:36 p.m., a 27-year-old Rockville woman on the overpass of Wheaton Metro in the 11000 block of Veirs Mill Rd. when 2 suspects passed by and displayed a gun. She heard a loud bang and something fly past her. A shot may have been fired but police were not able to find any evidence to that effect.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, heavy, black jacket.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, thin, wearing black hooded jacket.

 

Arrests 

            -On 03-11-06 at 9:00 p.m., a 17-year-old juvenile from Germantown and a 15-year-old juvenile from Germantown, were arrested for an assault that had just occurred. The 17-year-old was charged with Robbery, 2nd Degree Assault, and Resisting Arrest. The 15-year-old was charged with Robbery and 2nd Degree Assault. 

            -On 03-12-06 at 8:40 p.m., Sylvia Ritter, age 44, of the 8700 block of First Avenue in Silver Spring was arrested with aggravated assault that just occurred at that location. She was charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Reckless Endangerment. The arrest was the result of a domestic incident. 

            -On 03-11-06 at 3:26 a.m., Michael Kelvin Ray, age 42, of Washington, DC was arrested for a burglary that had just occurred in the 800 block of Thayer Avenue in Silver Spring. He was charged with 4th Degree Burglary, Trespassing, and False statement to a Police Officer.

RESIDENTIAL 

            -1800 block of Tilton Drive in Silver Spring, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. on 03-11-06. Forced entry, property taken.

            -400 block of Greenbriar Drive in Silver Spring, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on 03-06-06. Forced entry, property taken.

            -8700 block of Arliss Drive in Silver Spring, at 3:11 p.m. on 03-12-06. Forced entry, no property taken.

 

5th DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL 

            -ROCKY’S VIDEO, 19703 Frederick Road in Germantown, at 1:00 a.m. on 03-11-06. Forced entry, property taken. 

RESIDENTIAL 

            -18800 block of Sparkling Water Drive in Germantown, between 6:00 p.m. on 03-05-06 and 7:00 a.m. on 03-06-06. Forced entry, property taken.

            -24400 block of Frederick Road in Clarksburg, between 11:00 p.m. on 03-08-06 and 5:30 a.m. on 03-09-06. Forced entry, property taken.

            -18900 block of Piney Point Place in Germantown, between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on 03-08-06. Forced entry, property taken.
