RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

April 11, 2006 

 

COMMERCIAL ARMED ROBBERY

On 3-31-06 at 9:55 p.m., the Courtyard Marriott, located at 2500 Research Blvd. in Rockville, was robbed.  A masked suspect entered the motel, displayed a black handgun, and demanded money from the clerk.  The clerk complied.  The suspect fled out the front door and into a vehicle, and was last seen on Research Blvd. toward Shady Grove Rd. 

  • Suspect – Unknown/M, wearing blue jeans and a dark jacket with a single white horizontal stripe around the midsection, a full-face ski mask, and gloves.  He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. 

  • Suspect Vehicle - 1990s Toyota 4-door, beige in color.

 

On 3-28-06 at 9:20 p.m., a delivery person for Papa Johns Pizza of Olney was making  a delivery in the 18500 block of Shadowridge Terr. in Olney, when a suspect came out of the woods, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the victim. After obtaining cash, the suspect ran back into the woods.  

  • Suspect 1 – B/M, 5’11”-6’2”, 180 lbs., wearing a long-sleeve black shirt and a windbreaker-type black jacket, with cornrows in his hair, and having a goatee.

 

On 3-31-06 at 4:20 a.m., a taxi driver for Aspen Cab reported that he had picked up a male customer in Washington, DC and took him to Germantown where the subject robbed him of cash at gunpoint. After the robbery, the suspect got out of the cab and entered a small black car with an unknown state tag—it was not a Maryland or Virginia tag.  The getaway car may have been a Pontiac.  

  • Suspect – Moroccan/M, 25-30, 6’1”, 165 lbs., and clean-shaven, wearing a dark blue athletic jacket, light blue jeans, and white sneakers.

ARMED ROBBERY 

On 3-31-06 at 6:30 p.m., a 25 year-old Silver Spring man was at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Blueridge Ave. getting gas when he was approached by a suspect, who said he needed help in the form of money. They got food at a nearby convenience store, after which time the victim drove the suspect to another nearby location, where the suspect told the victim he had a gun, and demanded the victim’s cell phone.  The victim complied, and the suspect ran away in an unknown direction. 

  • Suspect – Asian/M, 24-25, with very close-cut hair and facial stubble, carrying a handgun.

 

On 3-28-06 at 6:15 p.m., a 45 year-old Damascus man was sitting in his truck outside of Applebee’s at 21048 Frederick Rd. in Germantown when a suspect entered the victim’s truck, implied a gun, and took property.        

  • Suspect – B/M,  with dreadlocks/twists in his hair, and wearing a green Army jacket and black jeans

 

On 4-1-06 at 4:40 p.m., a 32 year-old Silver Spring man was waiting at the bus stop in the 300 block of Northampton Dr. in Silver Spring, when a suspect asked the victim how much money he had. The suspect also produced a red folding knife. The victim did not cooperate. A bus arrived and the suspect and two others boarded the bus. No property was obtained. 

  • Suspect  – B/M, 18-25, 5’7”-5’9”, 150-170 lbs., thin in build, wearing a black long-sleeve jacket, black jeans, and a black baseball-style hat.

 

On 4-2-06 at 7:30 p.m., a deliveryman for Eastern Carry-Out at 10205 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring was making a delivery to the 11500 block of Stewart Ln., when 8-10 unknown subjects attacked him, struck him with a stick, and removed cash from his pockets.  They then fled on foot to the rear of the building.

  • Suspects – A group comprised of white, black and Hispanic males, aged 15-18, with one female suspect of unknown race or age.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY 

On 4-1-06 at 8:35 p.m., a 22 year-old male from Norfolk, Va. and his friend were attacked by 6 to 8 unknown males and 1 female in the 8500 block of Fenton Dr. in Silver Spring. The 22 year-old victim was attacked first and then his friend, a 24-year-old male, tried to help.  Both were struck in the jaw during the incident.  Property was taken from Victim #1. The suspects then ran toward Wayne Ave. from Fenton St. Victim #1 was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

  • Suspect #1 – W/M, 5’11”, 185-200 lbs., with short brown hair, wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans.

  • Other suspects – B/Ms, 1 black female.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

On 3-25-06 at 2:00 a.m., a 31 year-old Germantown woman reported that while she was dancing at Café Spice at 9811 Washington Blvd. in Gaithersburg, another female approached her, pulled her to the floor by her hair, and struck her with a broken bottle. Police were called, but by then the suspect had left the building. The victim was taken to the local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

  • Suspect – Hispanic/F, 25-30, 5’6”-5’8”, with red hair, wearing black pants and a red shirt.

 

INDECENT EXPOSURE ARREST 

On 3-31-06 at 3:35 p.m., Cameron Roy Godwin, 45, of the 100 block of Fairfield Dr. in Frederick, was arrested for exposing himself to customers in the Roy Rogers located at 9607 Lost Knife Circle in Gaithersburg.  Godwin was still on the scene on arrival of police and was taken into custody there.  He was charged with indecent exposure, and the possession of CDS paraphernalia.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 

·        The Chevy Chase Center, at 5425 Wisconsin Ave., Room 328, between 2:00 p.m. on 3-26-06 and 6:00 a.m. on 3-27-06.  Forced entry, computer equipment and tools taken. 

·        The Cosi restaurant, at 7251 Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, between 12:20 a.m. on 4-1-06 and 7:15 a.m. on 4-2-06.  Forced entry, property taken. 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 

·        4700 block of Cumberland Ave. in Chevy Chase, between 11:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on 3-27-06.  No forced entry, property taken.

·        9700 block of Elrod Rd. in Kensington, between 3:00 p.m. on 3-29-06, and 12 noon on 3-30-06.  Forced entry, nothing taken. 

·        6200 block of Walhonding Rd. in Bethesda, between 10:00 a.m. on 3-29-06, and 2:30 p.m. on 3/31/06.  No forced entry, property taken. 

·        1600 block of East-West Hwy. in Silver Spring, between 6:45 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. on 3-31-06.  Forced entry, property taken. 

·        7700 block of Maryknoll Ct. in Bethesda, between 4:45 p.m. and 9:30 on 3-31-06.  Forced entry, property taken. 

·        5200 block of Camberley Ave. in Bethesda, between 1:00 a.m. on 3-18-06 and 1:33 p.m. on 4-1-06.  Forced attempt.

 

3RD DISTRICT 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

6TH DISTRICT 

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

400 block of Quince Orchard Rd. in Gaithersburg, between 9:00 p.m. on 4-1-06 and 1:30 a.m. on 4-2-06.  No forced entry, property taken.

900 block of Clopper Rd. in Gaithersburg, between 12:15 a.m. and 12:20 a.m. on 4-4-06.  Forced entry, nothing taken. 

 

BURGLARY ARRESTS

On 3-29-06 at 11:10 a.m., the police responded to the 18100 block of Smokehouse Court in Germantown for the report of the victim of an attempted burglary detaining a struggling suspect.  Upon arrival, officers placed the 15-year-old male suspect under arrest.  The victim, a 35-year-old man who lives in the 18100 of Kitchenhouse Court in Germantown, reported that he was in his home, when he observed the suspect and two accomplices attempting to break into his home by throwing a brick through a rear window.  He gave chase and managed to catch one suspect, who was charged with 1st Degree Burglary.  The other two suspects remain unknown.
