RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

April 15, 2005 

RAPE 

      -On 04-06-05, a 30-year-old female from Silver Spring reported that she had been raped on 04-05-05 at her residence in the Layhill area of Silver Spring.  The suspect’s identity is known and the investigation is continuing.              

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 03-31-05, at 8:10 p.m., a 24-year-old male from Wheaton entered his apartment building and was opening his mailbox when the two suspects approached from behind.  Suspect #1 displayed a gun, and struck the victim in the face.  Suspect #2 took the victim’s wallet.  Both suspects fled towards Georgia Avenue.  Victim refused treatment for a small cut. Both suspects are described as black males, 18 to 22, 5’10”, brown hair, wearing a black jacket, black hat and blue jeans. 

            -On 03-26-05, at 9:35 p.m., an 18-year-old male and a 25-year-old male were walking along Arcola Ave. near Georgia Ave. in Wheaton, when a vehicle with four suspects inside, pulled up next to them.  Suspects # 1 and #2 exited the vehicle and approached both victims.  Suspect #1 pointed a gun at the victims and demanded their money.  The victims handed over property, and then all the suspects fled in the vehicle, an unknown type SUV, towards Georgia Ave.
·        Suspect #1 – black male, 20, 5’9” 130 lbs., thin in build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a black ski mask.
·        Suspect #2 – black male, 20, 5’6”, 130 lbs., black hair in corn rows, wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.
·        Suspect #3 – black male, 20, no further description
·        Suspect #4 – black male, 20, no further description

-On 04-11-05 at 10:30 p.m., a 42-year-old male from Germantown, had just gotten of a Ride On bus at Clopper Road and Germantown Road when he observed four individuals near the stop, one of whom had a cell phone.  Victim was pushed to the ground by the suspect who had the cell phone.  After obtaining the victim’s wallet, Suspect #1 fled towards Clopper Road.
Suspect #1 is black male, 20, 5’6”, 210 lbs., balding, wearing a dark blue hooded jacket.  No description on the remaining three individuals.

ROBBERY ARREST 

            -On 04-09-05, Fredis Otero Caranza, 26, was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, 1^st Degree Assault and 2^nd Degree Assault.  The arrest was the result of an assault and robbery that had just occurred in the 500 block of S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.   A second suspect, who fled the scene, is described as a Hispanic male, in this 20’s 5’5”, with short black hair, with a dark complexion, wearing a white t-shirt, and black pants.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY 

            -On 03-31-05, at 9:30 p.m., a 19-year-old male, of no fixed address, was at the Wheaton Metro Station at 11171 Georgia Avenue when two suspects approached him. The suspects demanded property from the victim, then punched him in the face and took the property.  Victim received minor injuries.
·        Suspect #1 – white male wearing brown jacket, blue jeans, brown baseball hat and brown Timberland-style boots.
·        Suspect #2 – black male, black shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
·        Suspects 3, 4, & 5 – black males. 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 04-09-05, at 11:15 p.m., a 29-year-old male from Silver Spring was in the parking lot in the 800 block of University Blvd.  The victim exited his vehicle when two suspects approached and asked for the bag he was carrying.  The suspects assaulted the victim.  The victim was able to get away and the suspects fled the scene. The victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Suspect #1 was described as a H/M, 34-35 years-old, 5’6”, wearing a white polo shirt with black stripes and blue jeans. Suspect #2 was described as a H/M, 25-26 years-old, 5’6”, 150-170 lbs. 

BURGLARY ARREST 

            -On 04-06-05, Michael David Freeman, 28, of the unit block of Beacon Hill Square in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with Violation of an Ex-Parte Order and Burglary.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred early in the day in Gaithersburg. 

            -On 04-09-05, Mastewal Teshale Sebro, 18, of the 400 block of Girard Street in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with Burglary, Destruction of Property and Trespassing.  The arrest was the result of an incident that occurred early in the day in Germantown. 

-On 04-08-05, Manuel Antonio Franco, 20, of the 1800 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with Trespassing, 4^th Degree Burglary, Theft Under $500 and Malicious Destruction of Property.  The arrest was the result of an incident in the 9100 block of Rothbury Drive in Gaithersburg.
