RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

April 20, 2005

 

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 04-17-05, at 12:12 p.m., the 7-11 store, located at 9254 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring, was robbed. A lone suspect entered the store, displayed a gun, and demanded cash. The suspect took cash from the register and then left the store on-foot traveling in an unknown direction.
·
        -Suspect #1 – B/M, 6’0”, 180 lbs., black clothes, white gloves. 

            -On 04-17-05, at 4:50 p.m., a 25 year-old  Pennsylvania man was sitting in his Dodge Durango in the 8300 block of Colesville Rd. in Silver Spring when 3 black males jumped out of a white vehicle and approached the victim.  They began to assault the victim and took his keys and cash; and then fled in the white vehicle. It was last seen headed west on Eastern Ave. towards Georgia Avenue.
·
        -Suspects – three B/M’s, 18-20, 5’8”-5’10”, 130-150 lbs., wearing blue jeans, two with white T-shirts, one with a black T-shirt.

 

ARMED ROBBERY/ARREST 

            -On 04-09-05, at 8:17 p.m., Fredis Otero Caranza, age 26, of the unit block of Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, and 1st and 2nd Degree Assault. The arrest was a result of altercation involving a knife at an apartment in Gaithersburg where the defendant and another suspect fought with 2 victims. 

            -On 04-15-05, at 8:50 p.m., Tavaughn Deonte Funderburk, age 28, of the 16900 block of Longdraft Rd. in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with Robbery. The arrest was a result of an attempted robbery of the CVS Pharmacy at 18080 Mateny Rd. in Germantown. 

            -On 04-19-05, at 1:20 a.m., a 46-year-old Gaithersburg woman was in the 9700 block of Hellingly Place in Gaithersburg when she was approached by a suspect. The suspect demanded her wallet and pushed her to the ground. The suspect took her purse and fled on foot towards Christopher Avenue.

        -Suspect #1 – B/M, 20-30, 5’6”-5’9”, 160-185 lbs., black clothes.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY 

           -On 04-16-05, at 9:35 p.m., a 41-year-old Silver Spring woman was walking on Newell St. at Kennett St. in Silver Spring when a red Jeep Cherokee pulled up to her. Three suspects exited the Jeep and began to follow the victim. Eventually, they began to punch the woman and took her purse. They then fled in the Jeep onto East West Hwy. towards Colesville Road.
·
        -Suspects –three B/M, 20-25, 5’7”-6’0”, two with black clothes, one with long white T-shirt and dark trousers.

           -On 04-15-05, at 11:45 a.m., a student at Blair High School was walking around the side of the building when 2 suspects approached and asked for money. He said he had none. They walked away and the came back and took his cell phone.

        Suspect #1 and #2 – B/M, 14-17, 5’5”-5’9”, blue and gray Northface jacket.

            -On 04-15-05, at 8:46 p.m., an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old male, both from Silver Spring were in standing on the sidewalk in the 8500 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring when the suspect approached with a group of males.  Both victims started to walk away when the suspect removed a cap from the victim’s head.  The suspect also took a jacket and cash.  The Suspect then fled on foot. Only one suspect description was provided.

        Suspect – black male, 20 to 22, 5’8” to 5’9”, 150 to 160 lbs., black dread-locks, goatee and was wearing all black clothing.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY ARREST 

            -On 04-14-05, George Eugene Howard, 40, and John Daniel Collins, 44, both of no fixed address were arrested and charged with Robbery and 2nd Degree Assault.  The arrests were the result of an incident that occurred in the unit block of N. Summit  Drive in Gaithersburg.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 04-16-05, at 1:30 a.m., a 21-year-old male from Gaithersburg, was assaulted with a box cutter after a domestic argument.  The incident occurred in Gaithersburg earlier in the day.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARRESTS           

            -On 04-12-05, John William Tripp, 34, of the 4300 block of Ambler Drive in Kensington, was arrested and charged with two counts of 1st Degree Assault and two counts of Reckless Endangerment.  The arrest was the result of an incident against two juveniles from the area. 

 

PEEPING TOM 

            -On 04-10-05, at 6:00 a.m., a 23-year-old female was awakened by the suspect shining a flashlight through the basement window of a residence in the 4300 block of Western Avenue in Chevy Chase.  The suspect fled in an unknown direction.  The Suspect is described as a white male, 5’11” to 6’02”, thin build, medium length curly hair, wearing a navy blue or black hooded sweat shirt, dark jeans, and a dark colored baseball cap.

2nd DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL 

            -GRAVELY LTD, 7012 Mountain Gate Drive in Bethesda, between 5:00 p.m. on 04-16-05 and 6:00 a.m. on 04-18-05.  Forced entry, property taken. 

RESIDENTIAL 

            -8000 block of Ellingson Drive in Chevy Chase, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on 04-11-05.  Forced entry (garage), property taken.

            -5500 block of Cedar Parkway in Chevy Chase, between 12:10 p.m. and 1:58 p.m., on 04-07-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

            -8200 block of Meadowbrook Lane in Chevy Chase, between 1:00 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. on 04-12-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

 

3rd DISTRICT 

RESIDENTIAL 

            -1600 block of Dublin Drive in the Forest Estates area of Silver Spring, between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on 04-15-05.   Forcible attempt.

            -1000 block of McCeney Avenue in the White Oak area of Silver Spring, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:59 p.m. on 04-15-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

            -600 block of Sonata Way in the White Oak area of Silver Spring, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on 04-08-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

            -1200 block of Prospect Street in Takoma Park, between 10:30 p.m. and 11:44 p.m. on 04-17-05.   Open window, property taken.

            -1000 block of Hollywood Avenue in the Hollywood Park community of Silver Spring, between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on 04-17-05.  Forced entry, nothing taken.

            -4300 block of Tinsberry Court in Burtonsville, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on 04-18-05.  Forced entry, property taken.

            12400 block of Loft Lane in the Rolling Acres community of Silver Spring, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on 04-18-05.  Entered open garage, property taken.

 

5th DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL 

            -WOODFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 24200 Woodfield Road in Damascus, between 8:28 p.m. and 8:32 p.m. on 04-16-05.  Forced entry, nothing taken.

 

6th DISTRICT 

COMMERCIAL 

            -FIRST CHOICE PERFUM, 701 Russell Avenue, in Gaithersburg, between 9:00 p.m. on 04-15-05 and 7:45 a.m. on 04-16-05.  Forced entry, nothing taken.

            -RED LOBSTER, 15700 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg, on 04-17-05 at 2:30 a.m.   Forced entry, property taken. 

RESIDENTIAL 

            -Unit block of Autumn Hill Way in Gaithersburg, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on 04-18-05.  Forced entry, nothing taken.
