RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

 

May 31, 2006

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT 

            -On 05-12-06, at 3:15 p.m., a Silver Spring man was traveling northbound on Colesville Road at Fenton Street in Silver Spring, when a dark green Honda Civic, driven by the suspect, started to drive erratically. The suspect pulled along side the victim and displayed a knife and yelled he would kill the victim’s family. The victim finally lost the suspect in the area of Columbia Pike and Sandy Spring Road.
            -Suspect #1 – W/M, 17 to 19, short black hair driving a dark-green, 4-door, with unknown Maryland tags.

 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT/ARREST 

            -On 05-07-06, at 8:43 p.m., two Gaithersburg females, ages 13 and 14, were arrested and charged as juveniles with disorderly conduct. The 14 year-old was also charged as a juvenile with 1st and 2nd degree assault and failure to obey a lawful order. In addition, the 13 year-old was charged as a juvenile with hindering a police investigation. The arrests were a result of the two females involved in a domestic assault with a knife. Both were released into the custody of an adult family member.

            -On 05-13-06, at 1:35 a.m., a 16-year-old Gaithersburg female was arrested and charged as a juvenile with armed robbery, use of a handgun in commission of a violent felony, 1st degree burglary, three counts of 1st degree assault, auto theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft over $500, theft under $500, destruction of private property, 2nd degree assault, and conspiracy to all of the above. Also arrested were two Gaithersburg male juveniles, both aged 15. They were charged with the same as above. The arrests were the result of a home invasion robbery at a residence in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village earlier that morning. 

            -On 05-07-06, at 2:00 p.m., a 15 year-old female juvenile from Burtonsville was arrested and charged as a juvenile with 1st degree assault. The arrest was a result of a fight the girl had with an adult family member at their residence in Burtonsville. 

            -On 05-16-06, at 12:50 p.m., Jonathan Joseph Bartlett, age 23, of the 12800 block of Locbury Circle in Germantown, was arrested and charged with robbery and assault. The arrest was a result of a robbery at the CVS drug store at 546 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg where the defendant took merchandise from the store and threatened employees with a hammer when an employee tried to confront him.  He left the store but was later apprehended by police in the 400 block of Blue Silk Lane.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY

            -On 05-21-06, at 8:05 p.m., a 46-year-old Burtonsville woman was in front of the CVS store in the 15600 block of Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, when a suspect approached her from behind, pushed her, and grabbed her purse. It was later learned that the suspect had exited a Lexus vehicle which was occupied by other suspects.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 16-18, 5’6”-5’8”, braids, black shirt, white under shirt, blue pants, white shoes.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 16-18, 5’9”-6’0”, white T-shirt, blue jeans.
 

            -On 05-07-06, at 7:30 p.m., a 36-year-old Montgomery Village man was walking in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle when he was approached from behind by three unknown suspects. They struck the victim in the back of the head and kicked his leg. They took his cell phone and wallet. The suspects then walked away. There is no information about the suspects.

            -On 05-05-06, at 9:00 p.m., a 22-year-old Wheaton woman reported that she had been robbed and beaten in the parking lot of Stephen Knolls School, located at the 10700 block of St. Margarets Rd. in Wheaton. The suspect approached her and took her purse and cell phone.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 18-22, 5’8”-6’0”, 130-150 lbs., short hair, mustache, black jacket and backpack, white shirt.

            -On 05-14-06, at 1:10 p.m., a 78-year-old Silver Spring man was walking down hill on foot path in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Rd. in Silver Spring when he was approached by two suspects. One suspect grabbed the victim and threw him to the ground. The other suspect rifled the victim’s pockets, stole his money, and fled on foot.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 20-24, 6’0”, 200 lbs., black clothing.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 20-24, 5’8”, 150 lbs., thin, black clothing. 

            -On 05-13-06, at 2:30 a.m., a 22-year-old Silver Spring man was at the bus stop in the 1100 block of Bonifant St. in Silver Spring when he was approached by two suspects. One suspect asked for money. The victim first said he had none, but then produced some cash. Suspect #2 took the cash and both fled on foot in the direction of Georgia Avenue.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 20-24, 6’0”, 160 lbs., Afro-style hair, white shirt and sneakers, blue jeans.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 25-30, 6’0”, 160 lbs., black hooded sweatshirt, black shirt, blue jeans. 

            -On 05-14-06, at 2:00 a.m., a 23-year-old Silver Spring man and a 28-year-old Columbia, Md. man were in the 11700 block of Old Columbia Lane in Silver Spring when two suspects approached on foot. They asked for directions and then punched the male victim and stole his vehicle. The vehicle was described as a 2000 Nissan Altima, silver, 4-door, with Md. tags. The stolen vehicle was last seen headed toward Stewart Lane and Rt. 29.
            -Suspects #1 and #2 – B/M, 23-25, 5’8”-6’0”, 200-250 lbs., stubble, black T-shirt, blue jeans. 

 

INDECENT EXPOSURE ARREST 

            -On 05-14-06, at 12:20 p.m., John Kim Kirkpatrick, age 34, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with indecent exposure. The arrest was a result of an incident at Starbucks on Rockville Pike where the defendant took off all of his clothes.

 

INDECENT EXPOSURE 

            -On 05-13-06, at 3:35 p.m., a 31-year-old Silver Spring woman was on Mahan Rd. at Dewey Rd. in Rockville when a suspect drove by in a white van with Maryland tags. She later encountered the vehicle up the street, parked, and the passenger exposed himself. The victim then called police and the suspect fled the scene, westbound on Ferrara Drive.

            -Suspect #2 – W/M, 30s, stubble, medium build.

 

BURGLARY ARREST 

            -On 05-09-06, at 2:15 p.m., Kevin Stevenson Banks II, age 26, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with 4th degree burglary and trespassing. The arrest was a result of the defendant breaking into a vacant apartment in the 2300 block of Georgian Way in Silver Spring that had just occurred.

           

ARMED ROBBERY 

            -On 05-21-06, at 12:30 a.m., a 13-year-old Germantown male and a 14-year-old Olney  male were on Scenery Drive in Germantown when they were approached by two suspects on separate bikes. Suspect #2 displayed a black handgun and ordered the victims to give up their jackets. Suspect #1 took the victims’ hats and one of the cell phones. The suspects fled the scene on their bikes.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 15-16, 5’6”, 120 lbs., corn rows, blue T-shirt, blue jeans
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 16-19, 5’9”, 160 lbs., Afro hair, blue jeans, black shirt. 

            -On 05-20-06, at 10:45 p.m., a 25-year-old Washington, D.C. man was at the bus stop on S. Frederick Ave. at Cedar Ave. in Gaithersburg when two suspects approached.  Suspect #1 pulled a mask over his head and pulled a handgun from his waist. He demanded money and the victim complied. Both suspects then fled on foot down Cedar Ave. toward W. Deer Park Road.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 16-25, 5’10”, 180 lbs., black clothes.
            -Suspect #2 – Hispanic/M, 16-25, 5’5”, 150 lbs., mustache, black cloth 

            -On 05-16-06, at 12:29 a.m., a 45-year-old Silver Spring man reported that he had been shot by one of three suspects in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Rd. in Silver Spring. He was transported to a hospital in Washington, D.C. One of the suspects got into a dark blue SUV (possibly a GMC Yukon) and drove down Garland Ave. towards Piney Branch Road.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 20-25, 5’8”-5’10”, dreadlocks, black jacket, blue jeans, white shirt, black baseball hat.
            -Suspect #2 & 3 – B/M, 20-25, 5’7”-5’10”, blue jeans, black shirt and hat. 

            -On 05-23-06, at 1:20 a.m., the Mobil Mart, located at 12040 Cherry Hill Rd. in Silver Spring,was robbed. Two suspects entered the store with their faces covered. Suspect #2 was in possession of a long shotgun. They forced the victims to the ground, placed bag over their heads, and taped their hands. They obtained money from the cash register and from two victims. A track of the suspects led to Sweet Clover Drive.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 5’6”, 150- 155 lbs.., blue jacket, gray bandana.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 5’11”, 160 lbs., gray bandana. 

            -On 05-13-06, at 1:35 p.m., a 29-year-old Silver Spring man reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint on 04-29-06. This occurred in the rear parking lot of the 7-Eleven store in the 9200 block of New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring. Two suspects approached his vehicle and asked for money. They removed money from the victim and left the scene.
            -Suspect  #1 – B/M, 15-17, 5’6”-5’9”, 150-160 lbs.
            -Suspect #2 – B/M, 15-17, 5’6”-5’9”, 150-160 lbs. 

            -On 05-16-06, at 12:09 p.m., a 41-year-old  pizza delivery man was robbed in the 11700 block of Ashworth Ct. in Germantown. Three suspects approached him and grabbed his arms and stole pizza, his cell phone and cash. One suspect had a baseball bat and another had a gun. The suspects fled behind Fox Chapel Elementary School and next to the Tennis Courts behind Ashworth Court.
            -All Suspects – B/M, 17-20. 

            -On 05-12-06, at 12:01 p.m., a 24-year-old Silver Spring man was walking in the 8500 block of 16th St.  in Silver Spring when he observed a suspect  come up from behind him. The suspect pulled out a knife and demanded money. The suspect took cash, a cell phone, and a radio from the victim. The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction. A second suspect appeared briefly.
            -Suspects #1 &#2 – B/M’s, 16-17, no further descriptions.

            -On 05-17-06, at 12:30 p.m., a Silver Spring man was in front of the Ramada Inn and 7-Eleven store on Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring when he was approached by two female suspects. One suspect got in front of him and placed a knife to his chest. The other suspect went through his pocket and removed his wallet. The suspects then fled on Georgia Ave. towards Washington, D.C.
            -Suspect #1 and #2 – B/F, 20-25, 6’0”-6’1”, blue sweatshirt or shirt.
