RECENT CRIME SUMMARY

 

June 9, 2006

 

ARMED ROBBERY

            -On 05-24-06, at 10:03 p.m., a female taxi driver for Regency Cab in Gaithersburg was transporting a passenger from Shady Grove Metro to Indian Hills Terrace in Rockville, when, at the end of the journey, the suspect struck the driver in the head with a butt of a gun. The victim fled the vehicle and a neighbor called 911. The suspect took the victim’s handbag and wallet inside. A track led to Anamosa Drive.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 17, 5’10”, 170 lbs., baggy jeans, black ski cap, black short sleeve shirt.

            -On 05-19-06, at 12:30 p.m., a pizza delivery person for Dominoes in Wheaton was robbed while attempting to make a delivery to the 10800 block of Georgia Avenue. The suspect obtained a cell phone, cash, pizza, and drinks. The suspect’s identity is known and the investigation is continuing.

            -On 05-25-06, at 3:15 p.m., a 29-year-old Silver Spring man was stopped at the red light at Piney branch Rd. and Barron St. when two men jumped in his vehicle and ordered him to turn it around. They drove to a park where the victim was tied up and robbed. Later, the victim freed himself and called for help.
            -Suspect #1 – Hispanic/M, 20-26, 5’3”-5’6”, 140 lbs., red baseball hat, blue jeans.
            -Suspect #2 – Hispanic/M, 30-35, 5’3”-5’6”, 200 lbs., yellow shirt, blue jeans.

            -On 05-22-06, at 6:40 p.m., the Motherhood Maternity Shop at Wheaton Plaza was robbed. A lone suspect entered the store and posed as a customer. When he paid for an item with large bill, he also produced a knife and took more cash from the register. He then fled on foot through the mall.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 23-27, 5’4”-5’6”, short hair, black clothing.

            -On 05-22-06, at 11:59 p.m., a 57 -year-old Gaithersburg man had parked his car in the 400 block of Girard St. when he was approached by four suspects. They hit the victim and he fell to the ground and then crawled under a car. The suspects began to kick him and then took his wallet. All suspects then ran off in the direction of the 430 Building of Girard Street.
            -Suspect #1 – B/M, 202-5, gray hoodie.
            -Suspect #2 – W/M, 20-25, yellow shirt.
            -Suspect #3 – B/M, 20-25.
            -Suspect #4 – W/M, 20-25.

 

ARMED ROBBERY ARRESTS

            -On 5-28-06 at 4:41 p.m., police responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 300 block of Southampton Dr. in Silver Spring.  There they arrested Elmer Gionanne Quijada of Marieta, Georgia, for helping another unknown suspect rob a 34-year-old Silver Spring man of a gold necklace, after hitting the victim with a beer bottle.  Quijada was charged with one count of attempt robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, disorderly intoxication, and resisting a lawful arrest.  The other suspect remains at large.  He is described as a Hispanic male about 23 years of age.

            -On 5-30-06 at 9:59 p.m., police responded to the area of Reedie Dr. and Veirs Mill Rd. in Wheaton for the report of a carjacking.  The victim was a 22-year-old man from Silver Spring, who stated that two black males were given a ride by him.  As they were driving, one suspect struck the victim in the face with a handgun.  A second victim, a friend of the first victim, was in the car, but fled on foot.  A short time later, the stolen vehicle was spotted on Veirs Mill Rd. and University Blvd.  Two suspects bailed out of the stolen vehicle, but were apprehended.  Arrested was 22-year-old James Walker McClain of the 2300 block of Berkly Street, Temple Hills, and the other is Lewis Terrell Wilson of the 2300 block of Berkly Street in Temple Hills.  Both were charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, handgun – used in a felony/violent crime, and 1st degree assault.

 

STRONG ARM ROBBERY ARRESTS

            -On 6-1-06 at 1:03 a.m., police responded to the report of a strong arm robbery at the Metro bus turnaround at 11100 Veirs Mill Rd. in Wheaton.  An off-duty officer actually observed the suspect go through the pockets of the victim, a 26-year-old man from Silver Spring, as the victim slept on the Metro bus stop bench.  Officers arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Alim Sessay of the 4900 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.  He was charged with one count of strong arm robbery and one count of 2nd degree assault.

            -On 05-19-06, at 9:13 p.m., a 17 year-old Silver Spring male juvenile was arrested and charged with attempt robbery and 2nd degree assault. The arrest was a result of an incident at the 14100 block of Grand Pre Rd. in Silver Spring where the defendant and 5 other suspects attacked a 46 year-old male victim.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARRESTS

            -On 06-03-06 at 3:32 a.m., police responded for the report of a stabbing in the area of the 8700 block of Arliss St. in Silver Spring.  Officers arrested Agustin Gomez Romero, age 19, of the 8700 block of Arliss St., and a 17-year-old juvenile male from Piney Branch Rd. in Silver Spring, after a short foot chase.  The arrest was a result of an assault with a knife on the victim, a 25-year-old man from Langley Park.  The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.  Romero and the juvenile were both charged with 1st degree assault, 2nd degree assault, disorderly conduct, and failure to obey a lawful order.  In addition, Romero is charged with carrying a dangerous, concealed weapon, and the juvenile is charged with conspiracy to commit 1st degree assault.

 

ATTEMPT CARJACKING/ARREST

            -On 05-12-06, at approximately 12:12 p.m., Jonathan Robert Blackman age 25, of the 24600 block of Showbarn Circle in Damascus was arrested and charged with attempt carjacking and possession of cocaine. The arrest was a result of a car chase by police of a suspicious vehicle in the area of southbound I-270 at W. Diamond Ave. in Gaithersburg.

 

BURGLARY ARRESTS

            -On 05-22-06 at 12:10 a.m., police responded to Westland Middle School at 5511 Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda, for multiple school alarms coming from the tractor shed at the school.  Upon arrival, officers observed three suspects leaving the shed.  They arrested Christopher Jinmo Ahn of the 12400 block of Ansin Cir. in Potomac, Ryan Christopher Workman of the 7600 block of Westlake Terr. in Bethesda, and Matthew Aaron Ritterpusch of the 700 block of Hope Lane in Gaithersburg.  All three are 18 years of age.  They were all charged with 2nd degree burglary, conspiracy to commit 2nd degree burglary, 4th degree burglary, and trespass at a public education institution. 

            -On 5-28-06 at about 2:25 a.m., Ronaldo’s Muffler store located at 7615-F Rickenbacker Dr. in Gaithersburg, was burglarized.  Video surveillance helped develop 44-year-old William Derrick Cobbs of the 10400 block of Maynard Ct. in Damascus as the suspect.  He was charged with 2nd degree burglary, malicious destruction of property, and theft under $500.
