In 1986, he was assigned as the department Polygraph Coordinator until 1994 when he was promoted to corporal and subsequently sergeant later that year.  As a new sergeant, he was transferred into the 3rd District where he supervised the Central Business District until 2000 when was reassigned to the Family Crimes Division as a Child Abuse Team supervisor.

In 2004, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served in the 3rd and 1st Districts prior to being assigned to the Policy and Planning Division.  In May of 2007, Lieutenant Hack was reassigned to the 1st District as a Deputy District Commander.
