Margaret McCarthy has been with the department since 1989.  She started in ECC and then worked as a Police Service Aide for two different stations – the 4th District station and the 5th District station before becoming the Crime Analyst for the Wheaton Station in 1996.  She moved to the Germantown station in 2002 where she covered both the 5th and 6th District station.  The 6th District station then obtained their own Crime Analyst in 2003.  Margaret has been a Montgomery County resident since 1983 and currently lives in Germantown.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The 6th District Crime Analyst provides timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trend correlation to assist Montgomery County Police operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for:  the prevention and suppression of criminal activities; aiding the investigative process; and increasing apprehensions and the clearance of cases.

The Crime Analyst provides crime trend and pattern analysis to officers at all levels in the department (patrol, investigative, undercover, administration, Crime Prevention, Media Services, etc.), as well as agencies such as the States Attorney’s office, and assorted community groups.  Many of the activities performed by the crime analyst are supported through the use and maintenance of assorted crime databases, files, and other information sources.
