Computer Crimes

As millions of computers nationwide are used legitimately for both business and home use, criminals have also discovered the opportunity to victimize the public. The Montgomery County Department of Police recognizes this and has created the Computer Crime Unit to investigate computer and online crimes. The goals of the Computer Crime Unit are to aggressively investigate computer related crimes and to educate the community on how to avoid becoming a victim in the first place.

Hooked on Internet Auctions?

Since you can’t hear the sound of the gavel or hear the auctioneer say “sold to the highest bidder”, you really don’t know whom you are dealing with when using Internet Auctions. It may be a costly experience!

Internet market research shows that only a small fraction of on-line auctions are fraudulent. Check out how you can avoid being one of the statistics.

Part of the Computer Crime Unit's mission is to educate the community on issues surrounding computer crimes and provide comprehensive information on how to avoid becoming a victim of a computer crime. Use of the Internet has and/or will continue to become a very vital part of our children's day to day lives. In providing access to this resource, we must also provide guidance and guidelines for the various hazards that can be encountered when using this medium. The Montgomery County Police, in cooperation with the local Council of Governments has launched a campaign to heighten awareness of online hazards for children and offer useful guidelines in keeping your children safe. On behalf of the Chief of Police, we invite you to surf through our website and make use of the information provided. Select here for the Child Safety Online web page that contains information on:
