Lieutenant Demitri C. Kornegay received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech, Communications, and Theatre Arts, with a minor in Sociology, from the University of Richmond . He joined the Montgomery County Police Department in September of 1983. Lieutenant Kornegay has served in a variety of assignments before being transferred to the 1st District to become a Deputy Commander. Those assignments included: an Investigator with the Internal Affairs Division, the Deputy Commander of the Records Division, the Deputy Commander of the 4th and 5th Districts, the Supervisor of the Central Business District Unit and a Shift Commander for the 3rd District, an Investigator in the Background Investigations Division, and a member of the Decentralized Emergency Response Team. He also completed temporary assignments as an Investigator with the Special Investigations Division, and with the Special Assignment Team.
Lieutenant Kornegay has run a mentoring/socialization program in Prince George’s County for 15 years and also mentors elementary school children in Clarksburg. He has been an assistant high school football coach for 7 years (Gwynn Park Senior High in Brandywine, Maryland) - the team won the State 3A Championship last year.
Lieutenant Kornegay is also the published author of “Dear Rhonda – Twelve Letters to My Daughter and Her Sisters;” there will also be a new book appearing soon. |
