Lt. Dan Waring has been on the Department since 1974. During his career, he has had many assignments. As a Lieutenant, he has been the Deputy Commander of four District Stations. He has also served as the Chief of Staff to the Chief of Police. As a Sergeant, he was the Commander of the Forensic Services Section. He was also a Patrol Shift Supervisor at 1D and 2D. Prior to becoming a Sergeant, he was an investigator in the Homicide/Sex Section and the Bethesda Investigative Section.
Lt. Waring has a Master of Criminal Justice degree from the George Washington University. Bachelor of Science degrees in both Sociology and Law Enforcement from the University of Maryland and an Associate degree in Applied Science from the State University of New York.
Lt. Waring is originally from New York City. He came to the Washington area in 1970 as a Marine stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps., in Arlington, VA. He currently resides in Clarksburg, MD. Lt. Waring has two grown children. A son that lives in Chicago, Illinois and a daughter who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.
